Waning Quadrant (Dreams of a Privateer Future Alter)

Asteria didn't mind being looked over by the others, they didn't know her and she didn't know them so she wasn't expecting pleasantries to be exchanged. She was sure they'd all be introduced when they reached the base anyway. She started following behind them, not wanting to be left alone for two long, but then she stopped in her tracks. She had seen something glinting off in the distance, quick as a flash, followed by the sound of movement. Asteria turned to notify the others, but only saw Sora's back for a moment before he was out of sight. She shrugged and started walking in the direction of the movement she'd seen. They wouldn't miss her for a little bit, plus the big one had said something about missing crew-mates. Asteria would feel awful if anything happened to them and she had the chance to stop it. "See you guys in a bit." She said to no one in particular.

As they continued to walk they would hear screams in the distance, and sure enough they would see a group of individuals terrorizing some civilians the leader of the group having a sword on her back which she was using to intimidate a bunch of children. "Oi oi, you need to join us, you don't wanna be without protection you know? It's not as bad as those old people say, they really don't understand how awesome being apart of us can be after all we run this island!" She was a rather tall human and was wearing a pretty general outfit except for an ornate bandana which seemed to have a stylized pattern with a Cerberus on it with the backdrop of a top hat. On other positions along the street there were about fifteen of these goons, but judging by their look they were run of the mill weaklings common around these parts, sure they all seemed to belong to same group as their leader but they didn't seem to be anything a privateer with basic training couldn't handle.

Asteria surveyed the situation calmly, taking in the sword on the leader's back and tightening her grip on her own weapon a fraction. She stepped out into plain view of the crowd, making sure the civilians could see her so that they'd be put at ease. She had on a uniform befitting of a Marine her rank, though she had lost her hat somewhere. She prayed she didn't have to pay for a new one or something like that. She cleared her throat to get the attention of the thugs and rested Io against her shoulder "It's not nice to haggle people about joining you." She said in a calm, even voice, leveling the leader with an even stare "After all not everyone wants to live the life of a pirate, always being hunted by Privateers and Bounty Hunters and each other..."

Asteria paused and took in the three headed dog on their bandannas and realized they weren't normal pirates "And I don't think they'd want to risk pissing off an upper ranker and going from subordinate to slave. That's what the Buccaneers risk isn't it?" She tilted her head to the side, her voice giving no indication that it was anything other than a genuine question for the group to answer.

"You better mind your business girl, before someone cuts that tongue out of your mouth!" The Leader said with a snarl sparing Asteria a glance before jerking her head to the side. As a result two of her goons would begin to approach the lone privateer both of them cracking their knuckles while their leader refocused her attention on the children she was trying to recruit. "Don't listen to her ya hear? If you know what's good for you you'll join us." she said with a sneer halting the retreating children's moves causing all three of them to pale and one of them would give a nod of assent. This left her with four other goons while the two who were approaching decided to start running towards her with the first one throwing a punch and the other one trying to circle around to grab her from behind so the other one could keep pummeling her.

Asteria sighed as the grunt came towards her, tracking the punch with ease. She easily caught his fist in her hand before tensing the muscles, the light hold stiffening into a vice grip. She yanked him to the side and flung him at his circling companion, hopefully taking them both out before turning back to the woman in charge "The banner you fly under may carry weight, but you? You guys are no more than bullies strong arming your way through innocent people." She drew Io from its sheath and pointed the blade at the leader this time, her stature and the length of the blade threatening "Last chance, puppy, leave the kids alone."

The thug would wince when his fist was gripped by Asteria before he was suddenly whipped and would land on his fellow thug with a crunch with the both of them crying out in pain, this would cause the leader to frown before whistling causing all of her thugs to charge at the privateer who was trying to ruin their recruitment drive. "This bitch doesn't know who she's messing with show her the error of her ways!" The leader said as her thugs ran in trying to overwhelm the enemy with numbers. However it seemed like the kids had taken this opportunity to run away causing the leader to yell in anger and chase after them, leaving Asteria with the remaining thirteen thugs. If she was able to defeat them however she would be forced to chase after the leader who would of had a head start to escape, so it was quite the pickle she would of found herself in currently.

Asteria sighed and shook her head softly at all of the thugs. They were just following orders, but unfortunately they were the orders of a corrupt system that only saw them as useful when they were throwing their lives away. She gripped her sword with both hands and waited for the thugs to get close before spinning in place, her weapon held out. This way she acted like a dangerous spinning top, slicing apart anyone who got to close. She tried to make the wounds crippling but not lethal, but the way she was attacking made it so that was no guarantee. She would do so until about half, or as many as she could get, were out of the picture, then she stopped spinning and began slashing at the remainder, aiming to incapacitate them. Once she had taken care of the thugs, she'd head off in the direction their leader went, hoping she wasn't lagging too far behind.

Asteria's technique was quite successful with the thugs getting sliced up and dropping to the ground clutching their bloody body parts, it seemed as if they were truly no match for her. Either way she would begin to chase after their leader who had a head start and was heading down backstreets in a bid to lose her, but seeing as the privateer was faster she knew she was in trouble and thus would quickly burst through an open backdoor into a residential building. It was a run down place and their was a sickly smell in the air as smoke filled the hallways while there were a couple of people in the hallway passed out. "Fuck stop chasing me you cunt!" she said while running up the stairs trying to find an open apartment to get into so she could hide in it and wait Asteria out.

While Asteria was chasing down the woman, she didn't really do so maliciously. It was one of her duties as a Privateer to apprehend people like her, but the Faunus just wished she wouldn't run so much. She did have to find her way to the Base and check in after all "You have a really foul mouth." Asteria followed her into the apartment, idly scanning the place as she did so. Was it a den of some sort? She hoped not, otherwise she'd probably have to take even more time to make sure these people were okay... "But you only starting swearing up a storm when I showed you I was a threat. Do you always curse so much when you're scared?" Asteria followed steadily behind, waiting for the woman to run herself into a corner or another space with no escape routes.

As Asteria would run upstairs she would see that this place was filled with drug addicts, it seemed all of them were using something that gave the men erections while the women seemed to be making puddles on the floor. It was a really sad sight for someone who was trying to preserve law and order but she hadn't encountered any sort of drugs previously so she wouldn't know exactly what they were using. One of the man would let out a groan and his pants would become quite damp while a bottle would fall from his pants seemingly filled with a glowing pink liquid. As for the thug she was chasing she would run into an apartment and close the door and lock it hoping that it was enough to prevent her from getting arrested. In actuality if she was able to break it down she would find that the woman was waiting in the hallway with the sword drawn and would charge forward to try and stab Asteria in the throat though it wasn't any faster than the thugs who had tried to attack her previously.

Asteria stepped gingerly around the people, throwing looks of sympathy as she went. She gingerly lifted the bottle of pink liquid from the ground and stashed it away in a pocket. She might be able to find someone that had info on what these people were taking. She got to the apartment the thug had hidden in and kicked the door open while tensing her muscles. The blade that came at her throat was sloppy, so she quickly raised her hand and gripped the blade, tensing her hand so her grip was unbreakable for the woman and tugged the weapon from her grasp, tossing it behind her as she did so "C'mon, you know how this is gonna end. Please, just come quietly." Asteria held out the hand that didn't hold her sword to the thug.

Durzo hadn't been here long, after washing ashore and realizing he had zero recollection of his arrival he then made his way inland. The situation was bizarre and the added lack of information made him feel uneasy. Something was afoot here. It wouldnt be long before he caught sight of a town.

Walking into town, he couldn't help but draw a few eyes from those who cared enough to keep watch on who came and went, so he kept his head down. With his clothes doused and covered in wet sand, he hoped to be regarded as a nobody whilst he slipped into the back alleyways. There he felt okay to try piecing together what he knew and how to move forward.

Theres a town, so hopefully a base is somwhere around here. I should be able to find some answers th-

It was then that he glimpsed a woman running and cursing her pursuer. This pursuer turned out to be draped in the Privateer uniform, much to his surprise. This was good. With haste, Durzo ran after them as they cut through the back ways. Their chase lead him into a run down building where the air felt off with an odd smell wafting through its halls. From there he'd take the stairs at a pace, as he came upon the sight of the addicts his face twisted into one of disgust of the scenery before him. Men and women seemed to be lost in the thralls of lust and fantasy.

"Sickening..."

Turning from the sight, Durzo moved on while making sure to memorize this location for a later report. Finding the Privateer with her target disarmed and ready to be arrested. "You should do as she says. Especially with the odds even more stacked against you."

The woman would look between the two of them before swearing one last time and putting her hands up only to begin backing up towards the window further into the house she had busted into. If they got closer to her she would keep backing up before yelling and attempting to throw herself out of the window as she felt that was the only way she would be able to escape. Though she did do it quite slowly thus it would be rather easy to prevent her from doing so and if she wasn't knocked out she would immediately start to scream as if they were trying to kill her. "Let me go you Imperial Cunts! You two are dead you here me dead, when my boss finds out all of you privateer assholes are gonna fucking die!" she didn't seem like the co-operative type however the sword that Asteria had thrown behind her was actually quite splendid much better than the person who had been wielding it.

Asteria looked back at Durzo as he appeared and started talking. She didn't seem alarmed, having quickly taken in his uniform and marked him as a fellow privateer. And if his look of distaste at their surroundings was any indication, he wasn't here on unsavory business. Asteria sighed and adjusted Io in her grip before cocking her free hand back, tensing it with Tekkai, and thrusting it forward at the girl's head. She didn't put enough force behind it to seriously hurt the woman, just knock her out. Asteria then turned to Durzo, motioning to the sword on the ground "Could you confiscate that? Or keep it, call it commandeering stolen goods or something." Asteria looked around for something to tie the girl up with, making sure to bind her hands and feet. Whether she could find anything or not, she'd hoist the girl up over her shoulder and grip her tight, walking starting back down the hall "Do you know where the Privateer base is? Or at least the bounty office?" She called to Durzo, thinking he'd follow behind her. He did follow her into the den, after all.

Durzo would sigh in relief as the woman seemed to give in to better judgment. Though this would turn out to be nothing but a ruse, as she attempted to throw herself out the window and scream. Which was annoying but his fellow privateer would quickly put an end to it by knocking her unconscious. Afterwards she would ask him to pick up the recently discarded sword. "Oh, sure but im not that useful with a sword. You can have it if you want." As he picked up the sword Durzo would inspect it a bit, it wasn't bad. Her next words failed his expectations. He had followed in order to help in some way but to also get information. "Ah, I was hoping you could tell me. Sorry but i'm quite new to this place. Oh my name is Durzo by the way." He'd say as he followed after her.

Asteria shrugged as much as she could with the unconscious woman on her shoulder "Unfortunately not. I just...washed up onto this island I think." She didn't really recall the details. She know she was travelling with other Privateers to her island assignment but she doesn't remember what exactly happened to strand her on this island "I'm walking around like a Maccao with its head cut off... Oh I'm Asteria by the way. And this is Io" She motioned with the sword in her free hand "She's a higher grade than that one, and all the woman I need." She walked towards the exit of the building, looking around to try and see if anyone was lucid enough to give her directions.

Durzo's brow furrowed at Asteria's reply, So i'm not the only one? It was odd when he thought about how he arrived here, but to hear the same from another made it even more mysterious. Something was going on here. Though he would put the thought aside before he'd give a light chuckle at her joke, before speaking again. "Its nice to meet you, and I suppose I'll just hang onto it then." He'd follow her as she exited the building. "I'd like to continue looking for the base but a lot of things seem off about this island, you know."

It was a pretty easy knock-out and their captive wasn't that heavy assuming either Asteria or Durzo wanted to carry her around with them, or drag her along the ground. When they got outside they would see that the area was pretty calm though a passing couple would talk about how a bunch of privateers went to the mayor's house to liberate it from the Buccaneers. As they talked the woman would express her concern about the other member of the buccaneers at the large warehouse by the docks learning of this information and ambushing the privateers while the man who say it wasn't their problem. Both of them would stop when they saw the two uniformed privateers out of their peripherals with the man looking sort of guilty while his girlfriend would immediately walk up to the pair.

"Excuse me, are you two with the other privateers that just beat up a bunch of those horrible buccaneers that took over our island? Even if you aren't you two need to hurry and go to the docks, there is a warehouse it looks really well kept in comparison to the other buildings at the docks and serves as the second base for those terrorists. You guys have to destroy them please!" she would say with her boyfriend panicking and rushing over to grab her by the arm and pull her away. "Uh ignore her, she drank a little bit too much don't mind us sorry for bothering you two." he clearly didn't trust either of them perhaps it was a bad experience with trusting privateers in the past or maybe it was fear of retribution if they were beaten by the buccaneers when they went to the warehouse either way he would try to quickly walk away with his girlfriend before they could ask more questions. This left Asteria and Durzo with a choice, they could take their captive with them, tie her up somewhere so even if she woke up she wouldn't be able to get away before they got back and try to head to the warehouse. Or they could ignore that and head to the mayors house with the rest of the privateers and act as back-up if there was some sort of pincer attack incoming.

Asteria stood still for a moment, thinking about which course of action to take "We have to get to that warehouse." The woman had said the Buccaneers were taking over the island, and the man seemed scared enough of them to not want to even be seen fraternizing with their enemies. They needed to be dealt with, and striking at their base would be the best way to do so "But we have to drop this chick off somewhere, we can't very well take her with us. And we might need backup. So we'll head to the mayor's house, help liberate it, put her in custody and then gather some folks to go and raid the warehouse. Sound good?" Despite her question, Asteria didn't wait for Durzo's answer. She just started walking in a direction opposite the docks, keeping an eye out for any other privateers or buildings that looked fancy enough to be home to someone important.
