Mission System

On Naruto Beginnings we're all about the storytelling and world building, crafting a tale that shows not only the growth of one's character but his/her impact on the world we're developing. Through Missions and Arcs roleplayers have the ability to tell their stories completely on their own through solo topics, with others by pairing or grouping up, and of course through interactions with NPCs modded by staff or even other players. A mission is exactly what it sounds like and can be picked up from village mission boards scattered throughout all of the main villages or simply assigned by higher ranking members of a community. Missions are ranked starting at D and moving up to SSS. Players will create their own missions, giving brief overviews of what will occur within the mission, what NPCs will be interacted with, and ultimately what the goal of the mission is. At certain points there will be staff created Event Missions, which anyone will be able to participate in.

Upon completing a mission, players will be rewarded with Xel, Jutsu Rank Rewards, and sometimes special items/weapons/equipment depending on the type of mission. To get started, use the template in the Mission Creation board found [insert link here].

Types of Missions

Story/Miscellaneous Missions
These missions are designed for developing one's character and act to further his/her own story as well as the story of the site as a whole. They also act as a catch all category for any missions that might not fit in with the other types quite as well.

Bounty Missions
These missions can only be taken by Hunter Nin, Tokubetsu Jonin, or Missing Nin. These missions involve capturing targets within the Bingo Book. Targets killed will be rewarded with half the bounty they're worth while targets captured and delivered alive will be rewarded in full. However, some Bounties will be marked with special Kill On Sight orders. If these bounties are killed, the player receives the full bounty and if they are captured and returned to the village, the player receives double the bounty.

It is important to note that the mission is not considered completed until AFTER the travel topic bringing the captured bounty home is completed. This allows for captured Missing-Nin to receive assistance from possible allies should they be captured. It is also important to note that Bounty Missions B-rank and above MUST be modded by staff. Bounty missions do not receive Xel unless the mission is a failure, instead receiving the Jutsu reward as well as the Bounty of the person being hunted.

Gathering Missions
Gathering missions are mainly for Civilians but can be taken by Shinobi hired by Civilians. In these missions, the character goes out and acquires materials necessary for various crafts. These materials could be special metals for a Blacksmith or pet eggs for a Tamer. The missions can range from characters wandering out into the wild to find these materials to missions in which characters rob a supply train to acquire them. Should Shinobi take these missions they will be rewarded in equivalent Xel, whereas rewards for a Civilian taking or hiring a Shinobi to do these missions will be rewarded in equivalent materials.

Rank

Missions are given certain ranks to represent the level of difficulty, which should be expected with the mission. For the most part, characters can only accept missions 1-rank higher than his/her rank as well as any missions equal to or less than his/her rank. However, the rules tend to differ when characters of different ranks are in the same mission. Also, at times there can be certain circumstances where staff will approve a character participating in a mission too high for his/her rank. This is usually for character development or plot reasons and does not happen often.

Duo-Missions: When missions are accepted by two characters of different ranks, the mission rank cannot exceed that of the highest ranked character. If the two characters are the same rank, the same 1-rank higher max rule applies as it does for solo missions.

Team-Missions: When missions are accepted by three or more characters of different ranks, the mission rank can be up to 2-ranks higher than the highest ranked character participating.  This is also true if all participating characters are the same rank, with the highest mission possible being 2-ranks higher than whatever their rank is.

Event-Missions: These are special, staff created missions which will be posted from time to time and can be taken even when characters are involved in other missions/topics across the boards. There are no set rules, as staff will adapt individual events to maximize participation potential. So, keep your eyes peeled and when events are posted, be sure to read them thoroughly before deciding to participate or not.

Delve Missions:

Border Defense Missions:

Spoiler:

Degree of Modding (DoM)

Degree of Modding (or DoM as it will appear on the template) is something the person creating the mission decides on. There are four levels of DoM and they are as follows:

None: There will be no mod involvement except at the very end to grade and review the completed mission.

Light: There will be some mod involvement, mainly reserved for boss battles and the creator of the mission decides where and when they want a mod to post in a mission.

Heavy: There will be a decent amount of mod involvement, with a mod jumping in sporadically (usually every 2-4 posts) to throw in a new element or send the mission in a different direction.

Full: There will be a mod post every round of posting throughout the mission. This can be chosen or at times will be assigned to missions by staff, particularly when PCs attempt to interact with site-wide NPCs.

Rewards

Rewards are given out based on how the grading staff member’s own determination of the execution of a mission. While things like proper grammar or spelling will never be taken into account when grading, it should be noted missions/stories that flow easier for the reader tend to be rewarded better than those which come across as choppy or nonsensical. The range on Xel is exactly that, a range and does not mean that a player who completes a certain rank topic should expect the full rewards. In fact full rewards are fairly uncommon and reserved only for impressive topics. On rare occasions staff can reward more than the max range of the mission's rank, but this is very rare and reserved for truly outstanding topics.

Should a member disagree with a staff member’s grading, they are welcome to post in the Dispute Board found here. After doing so another member of staff will read the mission and give their own evaluation, the member in question is then free to choose which reward he/she would like from the two offered. It should be noted that if members are found abusing this dispute option frequently, the next three missions completed would be given only half rewards. The Dispute Board should only be used on the rare occasion a staff member does not properly assess a thread.

 • C-rank Mission: 0-1000 Xel
 • B-rank Mission: 0-5000 Xel

 • SSS-rank Mission: 1 SSS-rank, 2 SS-ranks or 3 S-ranks

Word Requirements

On NB we use a word requirement system to make sure missions are properly flushed out and not just spammed for easy money/rewards. While the board’s minimum word count is 200 words for common topics, missions are a bit different as we require at least 300 words per post. Solo missions do not need to be posted with individual posts of 300 words each but instead can simply be singular long posts reaching an equal to or greater than word count as required for the mission rank. When missions are taken in duos/groups, the post count is increased by 2 for each extra participating person. For example a C-rank mission taken by a team of 3 would require a total of 9 posts, with the post count being shared. The post requirement for each mission rank is as follows:

 • D-rank Mission: 3 Posts
 • C-rank Mission: 5 Posts
 • B-rank Mission: 7 Posts
 • A-rank Mission: 9 Posts
 • S-rank Mission: 11 Posts
 • SS-rank Mission: 13 Posts
 • SSS-rank Mission: 15 Posts

Soloing Missions

Missions are also capable of being Solo'd this is done in two ways, the first by simply going on a mission alone and is modded normally in exchange for boosted rewards, or rather than waiting on a Moderator/Admin to mod you, in which case it is based on the rank of your character and follows a word count which is later approved by a Mod/Admin to signify mission completion. Only Other missions can be solo'd through the second way not any other type of mission as Escort, Creature Hunt, Bounty, Branching & Epic missions require moderation. Likewise upon completion one only gets the Xel & Mission Rewards. Regardless of the events which took place during the mission the character can not gain anything else from simply soloing a mission. The only advancements able to come from Solo missions are ones that would not require any Mod input in the first place, such as Weaponkin Soulbonds. Those that do, such as Dojutsu advancement or KKG enhancement cannot occur in a solo mission topic.

To further expand on soloing missions, two or more people can do a mission on their own without moderator input with the people deciding the events and outcomes of the mission. While this does count as Soloing, it does not give the doubled rewards and is subject to the same restrictions for soloing as noted above.

Rank - Missions which can be Solo'd
D - D
C - D, C
Elite C-rank - D, C, B
B - D, C, B
Elite B-rank - D, C, B, A
A - D, C, B, A
Elite A-rank - D, C, B, A, S
S - D, C, B, A, S
Elite S-rank - D, C, B, A, SS
"Z" - D, C, B, A, S, SS
"X" - D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS

Rank of Mission - Word Count Req.
D - 500
C - 1000
B - 2000
A - 3000
S - 4000
SS - 5000
SSS - 10,000

Note: Elites can Solo for Half the Word Count.

Modding Incentives

When you mod someone's mission you get and are a mod.
1. The Mission Completion Added to one of your character's bank whether they pass or fail.
2. A set amount of Xel added to one of your characters (the same one) depending on the rank of the mission. (Full Xel Amount)

If you are't a mod & you mod someone's mission.
1. The Mission Completion added to all of your current characters instead of just 1.
2. A set amount of Xel added to all of your characters, depending on the rank of the mission. (Half Xel Amount)

Training Information

In order to gain jutsu Shinobi must train. On the site there are Six methods of training techniques for use in battle two will be covered in Bijuu Information as they pertain specifically to Jinchuriki. Training Topics count as liquid time however each occupies a certain slot Solo & Bulk training have the same slot, Dual & Team Training have the same slot, Sage & Jinchuriki training have the same slot, Chakra & Gate training have the same slot.

Solo Training
This is the solitary training of a shinobi in order to improve there skills. Solo training is achieved by making a single post of a certain word count which gives an chronological account of the Shinobi attempting to learn and eventually gain use of the technique. Shinobi can solo train ONCE every day and upon using up their training for the day they have to wait till the next day to train again.

The Word Counts for Solo Training techniques include:

Bulk Training
Bulk training is a sub-division of Solo training which involves writing out over the amount of a normal training and utilizing that word count to train multiple jutsu at one time. While effective seeing as one obtains the jutsu all at once in the next topic the Shinobi will not be able to Solo or Bulk train for a set number of IRL days which equal the number techniques they Bulk Trained. 2 Jutsu = 2 Days, 3 Jutsu = 3 Days etc.

Dual Training
This is a training session which involves more than one Shinobi actively working together with another Shinobi, Pet or Summon in order to learn or teach a new technique by accumulating a certain number of posts to meet the goal. When Dual Training the jutsu one is attempting to train must be mentioned at least once during the training or it is invalid.

Unlike Solo training Dual training topics do not rely on times instead one is able to take on another dual training topic as soon as they end the last one with the only restriction being that Shinobi can not be in multiple Dual training topics at one time. In addition one can only Dual Train with members from your village or Alliance members who are in your village at the current time.

The Post Counts for Dual Training are as follows:

Pet/Summon Training
This type of training involves the teaching of a Pet or Summon an additional technique or in the case of the Summon a new combination jutsu. These training function as dual training and the Shinobi can likewise learn a new technique along with their pet however in the case of training with a summon both learn the combination jutsu.

The Post Counts for Pet/Summon Training are as follows:

Team Training
Team Training is another subdivision of Dual training which involves a Jonin, acting Jonin or Sannin squad leader to simultaneously dual train with members of their squad in order to teach them jutsu at the same time. A Jonin is required to benefit from training Three squad members at the same time, however without a jonin three squad members may train together using the basic 'two squad members' training counts.

When Training Two squad members at the same time the post limit is as follows:

When Training Three squad members at the same time the post limit is as follows:

Combination Arts Training
These involve training for combination arts among groups of shinobi. When training combination arts each of the Shinobi involved receive the jutsu upon completion of the training however Combination Arts do not register with the total amount of jutsu a shinobi can have at their rank.

When training two man combination arts the post limit is as follows:

When training three man combination arts the post limit is as follows:

When training four or more man combination arts the post limit is as follows:

Re-Training

Re-Training comes in two forms the first is detailed in the True All Taijutsu section and is exclusive to them while the latter is available to any character so long as they wish to improve themselves. As the forum ages often times old techniques are out of date mechanics wise and people wish to fix them up, this is possible however the technique(s) one wishes to fix must not only be submitted for re-approval but likewise must be trained over. The re-approval process will allow mods to determine whether a technique is in fact out of date, under-powered or obsolete based on new developments in the mechanics and in essence will contribute to a more balanced combat experience for everyone involved even if they are coming back from a long absence or suffered from bad technique creation due to not understanding mechanics.

The Re-Training of these techniques goes as follows:
D-rank = 150 Words
C-rank = 300 Words
B-rank = 600 Words
A-rank = 1200 Words
S-rank = 1500 Words
SS-rank = 2000 Words
SSS-rank = 3000 Words

FTP system:

Hey this is your friendly neighborhood pal, Sitekage here! I’m proud to introduce this experimental but cool development known as the Free Technique Points(FTP) system.  The whole purpose of this system is to try something new that could help raise activity for our lovely members who are already so busy with real life priorities and at the same time make the site a little more newb friendly. Regardless if you’re a site veteran or a new comer you are all welcomed to try this system out and switch off between this system and the old to best suit your needs. So here’s how this works:

1. Every week you can decide either to use the old system to train jutsu , the FTP system to claim jutsu, or do nothing at all(which means you just didn’t train or claim this week and no action is needed). As you probably figured by now, you can’t do both. This only applies for obtaining approved techniques. This method is a substitution for  Solo(bulk) and Dual(pet/summon training, team training, and combination arts ) type training. Other types like weeklies and  specialization trainings cannot be done through this way and must be done normally.

2. Much like claiming your weekly allowances, every week you can place a claim in your character’s claim page for FTP.  This can be done for all your characters. To place a claim you must follow the template at the bottom of this page , providing all the necessary information. If everything checks out your character(s) will be allocated a set amount of FTP based on their current rank.

3. Unlike claiming weekly allowances FTP isn’t awarded for just existing. These are “Free” Technique Points, so to get them it’ll  require nothing more than for you to do what you were already going to. That’s correct, it’ll just require you to be active. Before you get discouraged , we’re only asking for not 20, not 30 , but 7 posts a week!  A number which we hope to raise in the near future , but to kick it off only seven role playing posts a week. That’s only ONE post of your character’s hair billowing in the wind a day. Keeping in mind that these posts definitely do not include any OOC/Training stuff and YES you do get FTP for modding a character(more on that below).  Also content matters so if your character is staring at the horizon at-least bring a friend and make it interesting . If you can manage to get this done every week that character which you’ve posted your 7 posts with is sure to be approved. If you want another character to get FTP as well, then just have that other character put up 7 rp posts as well, ect. Fair warning if the posts time don’t match within a 7 day time frame it doesn’t count :( .

4. Once approved and allocated you can choose to spend and/or save your FTP. Keep in mind that FTP only applies to the specific character that it’s awarded to. You cannot transfer FTP between ALTs or other players. Although you can save your FTP to later spend the accumulated amount on bigger techniques, so long as your  character actually has the tech slot available for it. You will not be able to put down payments on future techs but you can save up your FTP for that technique in the future(may not see the difference now but trust me it’s different). Additional FTP gained through modding characters can be distributed between YOUR characters but can’t be redistributed once approved. To avoid confusion think of FTP like credits that can be earned , saved and spent only by the character who earns it.

5. The amount of FTP your character(s) can claim each week is dependent on their individual rank(as mentioned before). The amount of points it’ll require to claim a technique is also dependent on the rank of said technique. If your character aims to claim a technique that is in the solo category it’ll also require for that character to have the available tech slot, and currently be capable of learning the technique. If your character aims to claim a technique that is in the Dual training category it’ll require every member involved in the technique to pay the total amount separately, provide proof of teamwork, and every member to be currently capable of learning said technique. Example if a combination technique is worth 120FTP  and it involves  four members; all four members will have to pay 120FTP, have proof that their characters even spend time together, and actually be able to do the claimed technique. This of course excludes pets/ summons.

6. Points allocated through modding are probably the quickest way to accumulate FTP points. This can be awarded to those who are actually moderators as well. These points accumulated and can be claimed all at once per topic or mission(if completed)! This is of course as long as the missions were completed within the same week.  So if you completed two D-rank missions that were modded that week you can claim up to 4 additional FTP that week.  Great part about this is that it can also count towards the seven post requirement for ONE of your characters; therefore allowing you to claim that character’s weekly FTP plus get bonus modding FTP that you can distribute as you please. So yea, help your neighbor there’s reward in it.  How many FTP you get per mission is listed on a scale below and to be determined by a staff member. So don’t cheap out on us, make it a good mission. This counts for all missions that your character isn’t involved in and includes New World Missions. Fair warning if you fail to claim the completed missions which you had modded that week, there’s a high chance that you may not be able to claim those points. So stay on top of it.

Weekly FTP per Rank:
D-rank : 5 points
C-rank: 10 points
B- rank: 15 points
A-rank : 20 points
S-rank: 25 points

Additional FTP for Modding:
D-rank missions/threats:(1-2)points
C-rank missions/threats: (2-3)points
B-rank missions /threats: (3-4)points
A-rank missions/ threats: (4-5)points
S-rank missions/ threats: (5-7)points

SSS-rank missions/threats: (10-15)points
