B-rank: Dissection Blade: Lotus Petal

-----------------------

Cleopatra was sparring alone, shadowboxing if one could call it that with two chakra scalpels adorning her hands as she moved through quick forms and alternated her strike pattern. She felt free when she was moving through the kata of her Dissection Blade maybe it was because she was it's creator instead of learning some thing already perfected by another she was the one making strides all on her own. It was hers something that others couldn't take from her there was a certain degree of freedom associated with invention and even if her handler watched her she could still train without any fear of earning his ire. It was part of her new found fortune in stumbling upon a mentor and she had begun to work tirelessly in trying to further her medical knowledge. One of such research was in determining what effect unlocking the eight gates had on ones chakra flow and upon triggering the Gate of Opening her chakra scalpels would increase in magnitude actually doubling in size. It was pretty breath taking as she recognized that it could be a truly formidable technique once she gained more experience but that such an effect applied to every part of her Dissection Blade fighting style.

Sure under normal circumstances those who utilized the Eight Gates typically didn't have the degree of chakra control that she did, they were physical users who chose to empower their body with the chakra within their body rather than expressing it outward. Such was the options available to those without a chakra affinity but for her she didn't see it as a burden but merely something to work around. She had her alchemy she didn't need chakra for anything other than medical ninjutsu which she tirelessly worked on. It was a cover she had established to lay low within her clan if she appeared more like a medic than an Alchemist she could fly under the radar sure it did call for her to neglect her latent potential but Alchemy could wait until she was strong enough to protect herself from those who would seek to put her down. For now she would continue practicing everything else her medical techniques her gates, her lessons with Hiro in Kenjutsu, her study of seals in preparation for her Alchemy. While as an apprentice she might not have leeway to travel as long as she continued to hone her skills she knew that she could quickly become a Bronze Knight and then be able to go on missions assigned to her by Telarossa-san.

B-rank = Dead Soul Technique

-----------------------------

While researching exactly how Tellarossa-sama made his puppets move she had gotten access to some medical journals that still survived from the wreckage of the Jigokugakure library. Sure when Pandora had taken over the Land of Ash a lot of the shinobi infrastructure had been sacked, knowledge lost or burned and instead making it seem like a war torn location though overtime with settling it had gained a different kind of glory. It would never be the same as it used to be but occasionally while rummaging through ruins and rubble one could find something interesting one of such being a sort of intact scroll on medical ninjutsu. She had been reading through it and the first thing she spotted was the Dead Soul technique, something that even with the most basic medical training she could preform as long as her chakra control was refined and she possessed a corpse. Finding one wasn't too difficult she just needed to go to the dumping grounds where the broken toys from the breeding pits were dumped after their body finally caught up to their broken minds. She would be thankful that she didn't need to breathe as it was a location with putrid air from the decaying bodies.

That is whichever bodies weren't partially eaten by the various scavengers or worse stolen away fror experiments, but typically they were used as fertilizer for the crops to sustain the population which still ate normal food. "Using this technique, a user can temporarily reanimate a corpse, creating the illusion of a living person, and manoeuvre it at will with chakra. This is achieved by causing the heart to beat once more. The reanimated corpse can serve as either a short-time ally or an effective decoy. The said corpse can also use techniques they once possessed. The traces of surgery can also be erased with chakra, because of which there's no difference, at first glance, with a live person. Kabuto adds plastic surgery to this, altering the corpse's face, and goes even further by erasing its bodily odour, so that the smell doesn't give him away, thus creating an effective body double for himself." Cleo would begin to read it through once more just so she made sure she understood it fully and satisfied with her knowledge would make the hand seals to use it on the naked corpse before her. "Here goes nothing." she muttered to herself before the corpse would begin to twitch before sitting upright causing her to smile faintly. As morbid as it was she was one step closer to understanding her mentor and could see the allure of being able to bend, another being even if it was a lifeless corpse, to her will.

Basic Specialization Training (Spiritual +1 D-rank Technique Slot)

Cleo's life was better now, sure she hadn't forgotten her roots and truthfully never would and she also hadn't broken free of the chains which bound her a slave to the Artificer Branch but now she was no longer within a cage. If anything it was more like parole, they were watching waiting for her either to mess up or for her mentor to lose interest in her so that they could snatch her up again and bind her even more than before due to her insolence. But she wouldn't let them do that no she would push herself everyday, she had too much to lose now and had people who actually believed in her. Most importantly her goal seemed no longer impossible and she thanked the Phoenix that Pandora's upward mobility only required strength and had nothing to do with ones socio-political background. One was either useful in Pandora or they weren't worth anything, and she was getting stronger she could tell, her spars with Hiro were helping her with combat scenario's. Her rummaging through the rubble that used to be the Jigoku Library allowed her to increase her fuinjutsu knowledge and the occasional treatments she did for the HUIT order barracks was helping with her medical skill. Everything was coming together and it brought her joy because she knew the Artificer's hated seeing an Alchemist succeed, and she would succeed no matter what. She would get strong enough that their binding would no longer ensnare her and then when she was at the tip-top of Pandora's Hierarchy numbering along one of the God's or Minor God's of Pandora she could look them all in the eye and say.

"There are no strings on me."

Advanced Specialization Training (Spiritual +3 C-rank Technique Slot)
Exchanging 1 C for 2 D-ranks

Truly she was making strides, not only had she gone on a mission with her mentor Telarossa but also she had finally received her weapon which she had christened Mephala after one of the stories her guardian had told her as a bed time story. It was about the daedric prince called Mephala who is also known by the names Webspinner, Spinner, and Spider. Each daedric prince was part of the Pantheon of Daedra all of which were part of those Deity most closely associated with Cthulu. Every Daedrea in the pantheon had their own niche of which they controlled entirely which was known as a sphere. Mephala's sphere is lies, sex, murder, secrets and plots, and she enjoys seducing and interfering in mortal affairs for her own amusement. Or at least that's what her guardian told her, it wasn't the nicest bedtime story to tell to a child but it was really interesting and when she was younger she didn't really understand a lot but her nativity was quickly shattered through these stories. It was for a reason, she had to know these things if she was going to survive the power scheme of the Tenshi clan and even before her guardian died she was preparing her for a time when she wouldn't be around as if she had known her end was near. Cleo had taken the stories to heart, sure she wasn't into such thing and much preferred to become a medic but she kept her ears to the ground and was very wary of who she trusted, the only person she did truly and honestly was Hiroshima Denkou.

Thinking about him did make her giddy, she didn't know when it happened but she was crushing on him and truly looked forward to their sparring sessions. It wasn't just a change to get stronger anymore but instead spend time with him, relax and be herself for once without having to always be on guard all of the time which is what she had to do throughout her entire life. Watching waiting and hiding everything she was or could do from everyone since she couldn't even trust most of her fellow Alchemists. It wasn't their fault it was just the way things were, the Artificers and Handlers stirred up the nest and rewarded those who sold out their own treating them better and giving them perks all the while ensuring that the Alchemists couldn't join together and pool their strength. What with those who actually delved into the stronger types of Alchemy punished severely or worse killed along with anyone who associated with them like what had happened to her family it only made sense.

Still Cleo had managed to survive that and get herself a mentor where she could finally practice her alchemy in the safety of her new home. She could read the few things her guardian passed onto her from her parents and use that to improve her skills, some of which included being able to shrink the size of her transmutation circle to make her use of alchemy much more subtle as well as the ability to create an alchemic foci which she could use to preform alchemy without first having to make a transmutation circle. Which is what she had been planning to utilize Mephala for, she admired the blade it was beautiful and the weapon itself was a unique make it was thicker than normal and a bit over sized for an Uchigatana but she loved it and found it suited her. Besides she could always grow into it's use.

Freedom, really what is it. To Cleopatra it was a lot of things but truthfully to fully understand what it meant to her it was important to start from the beginning. back to the beginning what stemmed the conflict between the Alchemists and the Artificers. She had managed to obtain a true history of the event from the lineage of the Alchemist himself after all she was the last remaining member of his bloodline, if the Alchemist's were allowed to have a branch heir like their Artificer masters then she would be it. She would open the book and begin reading which first detailed the origin of Alchemy itself.

"The Origins of Alchemy can be traced all the way back to the formation of the Universe, as it as always existed ever since matter came into existence. However the method of which it was able to be harnessed did not become known to the world until the Tenshi Clan came about. This is due to the Sanguine Star, a blood red comet which orbits the planet every 1000 years having a collision with small meteorite with it's surface being cracked with large shard breaking off and raining down from the upper atmosphere. It just so happened that a child, the bastard son of the founder of the Tenshi clan with one of his servants, had seen the collision in the sky while stargazing having taken a break from his daily chores within the clan compound. He would watch in amazement as they fell from the sky and landed off in the distance and swore that he would dedicate the rest of his life towards finding them.

Despite being shunned by his half siblings the Enchanter, the Brewmaster & the Bombardier he managed to develop his own ideal the "Fourth" namely transmuting Raw Materials into other things for use in combat something which was made possible by using one's chakra to form a "Transmutation Circle". It was powerful, in his own opinion it was even better than his half siblings but they scorned him from it and declared it forbidden only after one of his students got over zealous and ended up killing himself due to a "Rebound". He became an outcast of his clan and all of his students were forced to practice something else with those who refused subject to heavy restrictions and harsh punishments for simply practicing it, his life's work was ruined..

Years would pass and the boy now an adult would, run away from the clan in order to pursue his original dream and eventually would discover the fragments off the coast of the Land of Torment on one of it's many island with the original blood red crystals cooling down becoming a dull red rock with radiant turquoise crystals. This user would go on to research the properties of it, deciding to name it Sanguine Ore and would spend the next five years of his life trying to figure out exactly what it could do. It was only by chance when he cut himself examining one of the rocks causing it to pulsate in response that he had a breakthrough. Over the next couple of weeks he would work on trapping animals and creatures using them only to notice that the pulsating glow was weaker in comparison to his own human blood and that he wasn't getting as good results doing such. He wouldn't abandon his pursuit of knowledge and decided to move to human experimentation leading people to the island promising riches only to kill them sacrificing them to power the stones as he had theorized that Gelel was only capable of being refined through the sacrifice of blood and flesh eventually he was able to refine it in varying states as the true process required an immense amount of sacrifices (hundreds of lives).

He would chronicle his work writing the "Book of Gelel" and with it re-establish the laws of Alchemy as all this time what he was missing was an Amplifier for the Alchemic process, a "Philosopher's Stone" if you will. He would return to the clan and secretly teach those within it however he was discovered by his siblings and after a long battle was killed due to all three of them teaming up against them. However due to his strength they begrudgingly recognized the power of Alchemy, power than the clan needed if they were to become a truly powerful Non-Kg clan and so they locked up the Book of Gelel and collected all the refined Gelel that her sibling had synthesized and allowed those students who had been taught by him in secret to continue to practice it but forbade them from teaching anyone the secrets to the creation of Gelel which was punishable by death. Over the years however...secrets still managed to get out those the punishments for practicing the more seedy uses of Alchemy remained just as harsh..."

Cleo knew this any Tenshi did after all it was their clan history as dictated by the both the Artificers and Alchemists yet while they were kin the former didn't care and still treated the Alchemists as the rejects, the slaves of the clan. This was because of the Tenshi Clan Civil War during the era of warring states, the Alchemist had taken on four personal students from the most promising young members of the Tenshi who had yet to choose a path. One to each of the four classical elements, two girls and two boys they would each not only learn enough to be considered master scholars on the First Method of their respective elements but also the second by the time they were adolescents. In their early teens they utilized their acquired knowledge to create the Pure Fusions the first of their kind. The Alchemist would deem them adepts and go on to pick up 3 apprentices which he taught one of each of the three essential principles one of which was his son though he kept that hidden for fear of his plotting siblings.

Each of his students would begin to mentor other newbie alchemists while they still learned from the Alchemist. They would then learn the Pure Fusion of Salt based alchemy Maduin when the Alchemist's apprentices eventually learned how to do the same as each of them saw the potential benefits of that specific alchemy over the others. They would refine their skills alongside it and each would not only manage to learn how to Nullify the alchemy of their respective style but also how to drain the Core Materia out of those who practices their respective Classical Element style. It was then that they each were deemed masters by the Alchemist and allowed to choose their own epithets, Ignis, Aqua, Aeris & Terra each after the core materia that represented the two styles. This was around the time where the three apprentices had likewise become adepts though the Alchemist's son was the closest to becoming a master out of the three. Things were tense between the Artificers who despite their apparent birthright would begin to feel inferior to the Alchemists, however it wasn't until the Apprentices became masters and took on the names Sal, Mercurius & Sulphur that the tensions began to boil over.

Whereas those the four students taught tended to stay within the limits set, only occasionally mixing elements those the apprentices taught constantly pushed the limits of Alchemy. This would bring some conflict between the two groups as the four students were closer to the Artificers than the Alchemist, eventually while delving into Bio-Alchemy three new alchemists would each die while trying to showcase their talents to the Artificers. This would give the four students cause to decry these new innovations and report the events to the Brewmaster, the Enchanter & the Bombadier whereas the three apprentices would content it saying that the risk was worth the reward and that it would bring power to the alchemist branch. This was what pushed the Artificers into trying to restrict the Alchemists which after the Alchemist openly confronted his half-siblings lead the clan into an all our civil war.

Initially he had projected the fight would be even numbered however his four students and a good chunk of the purely classical element style alchemists would side with the Artificers which Sal in his rage would give them the names Handlers as they were meant to handle those alchemists who refused to kneel before the Artificer branch. Each side would fight, with initially the Alchemists being in the advantage as their Alchemy was superior in regards to combat than the Artificers and because they utilized Bio-Alchemy to give them additional allies to offset the numerical advantage. However soon after a group of Handlers would discover how to create golems which allowed them to match up to the Chimera and Homunculus and would shift the tide as Golems were not only easier to produce but followed orders better and thus were easier to incorporate into war tactics. It was a long bloody war which even prevented them from being a major player in the world at the time as united the Tenshi clan could have easily risen to be one of the greats.

The alchemists would begin to lose, their numbers diminishing as the numbers game continued to tilt the war in the artificers favor. It wasn't until another loss against his Half-Siblings due to the Alchemist running out of core materia and going on a small sabbatical to develop a catalyst no matter the cost that the alchemists began to dead-lock the war. This was due to the creation of Gelel as the artificers realizing that the Handlers had powerful combat abilities would often provide support roles to further enhance their allies abilities. Gelel was the great equalizer, that is until the death of the Alchemist against his half-siblings albeit taking all three of them along with him to the grave allowed the Book of Gelel to fall in the artificers hands. This would also give them access to Gelel and both branches began an arms race improving not only their respective skills but likewise the gear available to them. The Tenshi were always good in regards to creating things and the dead-lock continued as the death of Sal's father prompted him to push to his limits developing the most complex fusion alchemy style, the Hexa Fusion, Ultima. With it he became a terror on the battlefield clearing groups of artificers and alchemists on the battlefield not only on his own but being able to battle each of the four Students to a stand still. Seeing as by the time he was a master he was capable of doing that with the only one of them at a time it made him a major threat, yet despite it being dead-locked the alchemists numbers having already been lower than that of the artificers and handlers would ultimately lose the war.

He would die in battle following an ambush on alchemist hq due to one of their own selling them out which would claim the lives of his friends now turned lovers Sulphur and Mercurius. Thankfully their children had been safely hidden intermingled among those children orphaned due to the fighting within the clan. He however would forever mark the fear of alchemists in the artificers minds as he died after killing over a hundred artificers and handlers while grievously injuring the four students. This would cement the control of the artificers as they would assasinate the four students while they were weak saying they died from their injuries and without their strongest leaders or those who could at least speak up about the injustice of the restrictions the alchemists were branded with their specific curse seal. Over the generations the oppression became worse while the Alchemist's bloodline hid among the alchemists in the clan. They were occasionally routed out and killed as their alchemy is very distinct, as both their transmutation circle's Runic Script & Rune Seal were unique. Infernal for the runic language and an equilateral trapezoid for their runic shape, and it was these constant hunts for them which lead to the second evolution of alchemy which favored covert usage and small modifications and was kept a secret among Alchemists as they saw the cruelty of the Artificers and needed it to survive.

Eventually upon joining Pandora and the Goddess Queen herself granted the Tenshi Clan her blessed marks, the concept of Handlers were brought back once more. The few Artificers who had obtained the Curse of the Magician Alchemist supplement and were now capable of practicing alchemy were put in charge of keeping the born alchemists oppressed and those artificers who had not delved into Alchemy happy. This was because only those artificers with the lowest status or were disgraced obtained such a seal and by serving as Handlers they could get some modicum of respect back. Cleo would sigh and close the book, putting it away and returning back to her work having read enough about her families history as it was bringing up the memories of her parents public executions and her guardians murder.

She had been but a toddler when she lost her parents and it was a stroke of luck that she hadn't been killed along with her father, mother and older siblings. The price for researching Forbidden Alchemy especially that regarding the creation of Gelel was death, however actually succeeding like her father had and creating a black market not only earned the death of him and his entire family but all of their friends, neighbors and those who had any known association with them. She had been dumped on a doorstep of a distant family member who was also descendant from the Alchemist, but instead of Sal's first lover Mercurius it was Sal's second Sulphur. She would be left along with a book containing their clan history as the two bloodlines didn't keep in touch for fear of them all being wiped out forever. By that same stroke of fate her guardian was not only sterile but the last of her line thus upon discovering a young Cleopatra would see that they were the only two left and saw her as their bloodlines last hope.

She would live with her guardian for 6 years being kept in the dark about heritage until her guardian was targeted by someone who had discovered her lineage. They would fight and thankfully the handler hadn't reported it to the artificers so upon his death Cleopatra would be safe and return to being just an unknown orphan. Unfortunately it came at a price as her guardian Karliah would die shortly after explaining who Cleo was and why she had to survive if only to keep their bloodline going. Cleo would adopt the name of her guardian and take the jewelry her guardian instructed her to get due to having etched seals inside to not only store the book Cleo's parents left her but Karliah's own family history and notes on alchemy.

From then on, Cleopatra now named Karliah would survive on her own, since the age of nine within the alchemist section of the compound having to survive on her own. She had survived, doing her best to get strong, learn how to protect herself and learn fuinjutsu if only to understand the seals on her bangles and earrings. Seals which expanded the size of what could be stored within, those which could stack multiples of items. However it wasn't until she met Hiro and she gained a mentor in Telarossa that she truly pushed herself. With access to a place where she could study in piece and a goal she quickly read up on her sealing knowledge. The immediate goal was simple she wanted to learn how to utilize Lightning without having the affinity. For that she needed to learn about the states of matter, as everything even chakra followed the rules of the universe. The first three were simple solids, gases and liquids it even allowed her to create a new formula one which was specifically for Core Materia as she as an alchemist could understand that within the things in nature there existed tiny composite materials and she needed to learn how to store them.

While she worked on mastering the last two she needed she would work on her modification slots knowing that if she did obtain the ability to utilize Lightning she would need ways to channel it, store it and emit it. Thus upon learning the Energy and Unstable state formula she had already likewise mastered the use of the three types of proximity formula up to level 2 namely close, mid and far. In addition to that she had learned Timer, Impact, Destruction, Summon and even Manifest formulas for her eventual incorporation of tools pre-marked so she could store lightning within them. This would allow her to begin her learning of storage seals which would lead to her learning Primary Elemental Sealing Method, Lightning Sealing Method and the Modification Seal: Lightning Element. With that she was set and was looking forward to surprising Hiro the next time she saw him.

But it wasn't just that either, no. She had been making strides in other things as well such as her Dissection Blade fighting style, as it was becoming quite formidable she could now manifest chakra scalpels from her knees, and feet with her chakra control so finely honed that even though it was difficult to channel chakra the farther away from the stomach she still managed to do it. By mixing the Dead Soul technique with her Dissection Blade: Transer she learned how to manipulate her chakra within the dead corpse in order to manifest her chakra scalpels. To be honest she had been inspired by Telarossa as his puppetry really interested her and while she couldn't invest into puppetry she would at least be able to mimic it with corpses. Not only that but she had learned how to focus the chakra scalpel to enhance it's cutting power but even when she managed to obtain a tiny amount of gaseous gelel after puffing it she discovered that her theoretical concepts of Gelel Scalpel and it's two advanced variants one which focused on it's slicing capabilities for biopsy procedures, the other which was a mix of Gelel and Chakra were both possible. She had even created a technique which would allow her to manually pump an individuals heart which she named Heart Grip for both it's medical and combat purposes.

In a purely medical sense she was quickly becoming a skilled medic seeing as she created the Medical Check-Up fighting style because she noticed that with the absence of hospitals and the like in Pandora that those slaves who were used as medics needed to be able to diagnose patients beyond their limited training. Surface injuries, internal injuries, poisons, diseases, mental ailments and how much a patients reserves had been depleted were all things they needed to be able to identify at a glance. So she taught as many of the slaves working in the rejuvenation chambers and instructed them to spread the knowledge among themselves. She would not only learn the Mystical Healing palm but she would apply her knowledge to create another variant which was capable of replenishing stamina to better support others and would create personal fuinjutsu variants of the two thanks to her newly attained fuinjutsu knowledge. She even noticed that her Medical Check-Up worked best off of her innate perception and would hone her reaction speed to it's peak so that she could be more ready to identify subtle things in order to pick out key identifiers which would allow her to treat patients. It was only a bonus that her gate use would allow her to get a feel for how to train it.

She knew with this level of skill she was quickly approaching Silver Knight which was her goal as the stronger she got the less influence her clan would have over her. Likewise the more power she attained for herself the more worthwhile she was to Hiro and helping him achieve his dream which would in turn help her achieve hers. She wanted to become the White Dragon of the INCO order and she already knew she had a friendly rival in Samuel. Both of them were being trained by Telarossa Alonne who they had initially both thought would be the one to claim that title yet he seemed uninterested and content with the power he had. She knew that he was likewise training gaining more skills and knowledge so she needed to do the same. Both combat wise and medically she needed to be his superior and the best way of doing so was getting to the next rank before he did. So she had kept training and training and this was where she was at right now, having trained all of the abilities she could without the assistance of Hiro's sparring sessions.

But those had continued on, and she was ready for the next one as she noticed when she fought against him her abilities quickly improved just being around him made her try harder and do better. She had been working on a new fighting style though she hadn't managed to really test it out mainly due to the fact that she didn't have a live opponent. It wasn't something too special just a fighting style which would allow her to utilize the traits natural to her being a cypher. Honing her reaction alongside her speed and mental fortitude, and learning how to increase her reflexes and ability to identify genjutsu. She wanted to invest into the use of illusions but truly never had the opportunity to do so, she did know that if she learned Indra alchemy she would be able to be a very potent user of illusions due to being able to build off of the hallucinations damage from Indra Alchemy was capable of triggering. For now she would focus on her physical attributes and medical training as those were the most important to her at this given time but it didn't mean that she wanted to be helpless against genjutsu users as she recognized their threat.

Cleo would get up from where she was sitting, putting away her notes and heading off to bed but not before admiring the unsheathed form of the recently christened Mephala. It was the perfect weapon for her now that it had been reforged into an Uchigatana, the blacksmith had made it very well. She would think about the person who had gifted her the weapon as she drifted off to sleep with Mephala being the last image she had before dozing off. Tomorrow she would have to find Hiro so that they could train together and she could show him not only how much she had improved but she'd also finally have an answer for his weird speed, lightning techniques and her range problem.

Basic Specialization Training (Dual Mix +1 D-rank Technique Slot)

-----------------------------------

Cleo had noticed that with her increase in medical skill, she had unconsciously managed to develop a unique fighting style which allowed her to incorporate her perception alongside diagnosing patients. It only was a result of her constant work as a medic within the HUIT order barracks, sure it was far and a pain but she got to see Hiro more often and that was a plus. Still her Medical Check-up was useful especially for those slaves within the rejuvenation chambers who didn't have much skills beyond being taught basic medical training. Sure it didn't need much staffing due to what the chambers did but she knew how they were maintained and sure Pandora had a very good method of reusing everything available to them but she thought maybe more humane treatments could be made available. One that didn't require donations of research subjects to the buildings dedicated to healing the damage the Knights of Pandora sustained in battle or in other ways. At the very least they would be able to determine exactly what was afflicting their patients since not all of them were immune to poisons or diseases, and the other problems could be determined early on so the lesser injuries could probably end up be treated properly instead of just dumping the patient in a pod. That would lessen the amount of lives needed or wasted every day which maybe would save the use of the pods for actual serious injuries and lower the amount of bodies that had to be delivered to keep the rejuvenation chambers running. Every little bit counted and Cleo would be able to rest easier knowing that she had helped to improve the quality of life within the empire even if it was just a little bit.
