Learning:

Yuzuriha always believed she was made for great things and even despite how her life had taken a drastic turn in the last few months she still very much believed in that. Sitting in her room, feeling unsure of just how long exactly she would still be living there, and looking at the antique protector that was passed down through her family. It was meant to become hers the day that she graduated from the Academy, and now she didn’t even know if that was still going to be the case. The protector was given to her on Graduation morning, everybody expected she would be a genin by the end of the day. It didn’t happen. Apparently months of fighting with the tutors, and a proficiency in swordsmanship not being enough to offset this, it had been enough to hold her back. She lashed out. She wanted to bring her sword to bare, but she reined herself back enough to only strike at a punching bag harder than she might have liked. The bag shattered and scattered sand all over. It felt good though. It was that day she decided, the Republic wasn’t where she needed to be.

She had her bag packed already. Once she got home from the failed graduation, she saw not a hair of her family. Her father was nowhere to be found, and neither were her passed mother’s family. She understood that side of the extention, but with her father not being there, she couldn’t help but see it for what it really was. Her clan was unsure of her. It made Yuzu unsure of herself. If only briefly. She gripped the sheif of the nodachi she favoured so much, reminding herself that she was a warrior. It didn’t matter what people thought, if what she was doing was right. If the Republic would not care for how she acted, then the Republic was wrong.

Yuzu was reminded of the tradition for those who leave their villages, the act of scratching through the village symbol that was emblazed upon the protectors that marked them as shinobi. For a moment she pondered doing just that to hers. However she never truly earned one herself, scratching through the family’s protector just would not be right. Instead she opted to see it as a momento of her goals. She was fighting for the whole world, for everybody to not have to fear assaults, and this protector would be the evidence she needed to tell herself she could keep going for that goal. Whether that was as a part of a village, or the events soon to transpire that would take her away.

She picked up her sword, and she picked up the backpack stocked with necessities. She could find ways to make some cash, just because she was going ‘Missing’ didn’t mean there wasn’t still a whole heap of bounties out in the world. She would have to be careful, specifically pick the ones who actually deserved it. During classes she had found out that sometimes people who threaten to place bounties on innocents. For fun. It was disgusting. But if that did happen, then she would need to be careful. No innocents. That was the one rule.

She paused by the door as she felt the urge for one final momento. She had to return to the little shrine placed in their living room, set up to honor her mother. She knelt down in front, and lit the incense stick. She stayed for a few long minutes, more than she expected any way, and then took hold of the wakizashi on the shrine. “... Dad will understand,” She muttered to herself, slipping it in to the ribbon belt at the back. Time to change the world.
