With the start of the new day September was eager to get back to doing her job regardless of her new position in the Bachiatari. She had become a semi-regular face in the jobs office, especially after her surprise return with two prisoners just the few days prior. Nobody quite expected that, let alone to get some more intel on Weaponkin fighters. She smiled at the usual faces as she walked in, doing a double check of her equipment, namely that Adamant was tight on her wrists, and Veritas was secure at her waist. She wanted to challenge herself a little, though she wasn't sure if that would be the best option, she could only hope a mission of B-rank would be on the lower end of that scale.

After a few moments of standing around, a young receptionist walked over. His hair was pulled into a long ponytail that rested over his shoulder and he had a small pair of round spectacles on. He nudged them up and looked at the paperwork he was holding before smiling at September. "September Taki! You must be! Excellent. I heard you were looking for another mission, I have just the perfect one for you." He nodded for a moment and then waved for her to follow him as he walked along. He patted his pockets for a moment and pulled out a small watch, checking it as he led her outside and over to a large series of crates that were sitting on the ground. "These crates need to be moved. They are supplies for a restructuring project over at the border to Damned. We are short-staffed and thus you are tasked with taking them to the project, I hope you're strong!" With that he handed her the paperwork and walked off.

The Long Walk:

September looked over the paper work and chuckled to herself, "Oh yeah I'm strong," No real understatement, though she didn't really want to show off exactly. "Ten crates of stuff?" She repeated back what was written on the sheet just to make sure that she was getting the details right, mulling over in her head what sort of work that would take. Carrying them one by one whilst reasonable, probably would mean there would be a whole day of it. And she couldn't lose too many either or all the work would be for nothing. Handing the papers back she began to calculate in her head just what to do. An attack whilst carrying could be pretty bad, not that she couldn't fight back, but carrying such a load would make it difficult. She made her choice, grabbing two in a stack, and lifting with ease. "Alright, I'll be back later for the rest," She smiled at the girl and left, making her way on the fastest route to the border where she had to deliver them. She kept the mental note of everything; watch out of danger, keep the crates safe, she was carrying two of ten, and at least 5 had to make it. No problem. She hoped.

The crates were just as heavy as they looked and they weighed down her arms as she picked them up. Thankfully she was pretty damn strong and thus they wouldn't be much of an issue for her to carry. Although considering there were eight more sitting just behind her... This was going to take a while, even if this was all she was carrying. As she started her journey, everything was pretty uneventful, animals cried out to one another through the woods, the ground rustled as she walked and a pleasant wind blew through, ruffling her hair. It was a decently pleasant day, things could have been much worse.

September trundled along, making sure she had a good grasp of the route that she was taking. Along with keeping alert for ambushes, she was also plotting other ways that she could go when she was carrying even more crates. Her arms twitched a little, an effect of Adamant keeping her alert and reactions sharp as her strength. But she'd experienced enough to know silence might still hide others.

All at once, everything fell quiet around September. A chill whispered through the winds and nothing seemed to move for a few long moments. Even the leaves were still, the wind didn't sing. Eventually though, things picked back up and everything seemed to go back to normal but there would be an unsettling feeling in the back of September's mind, like there was something decidedly off about what had happened. Would she listen to it and try and investigate or would she brush it off as change a change in weather due to proximity to Damned and keep moving? It was up to her.

September stopped dead with the uneasy feeling. She clenched her fists on the underside of the crates, and she felt Hippolyta tense too around her waist. Both were getting the uneasy feeling to the area, beyond just where they were. "... Great, just great." she muttered to herself. She didn't feel she had much choice though, until something happened she couldn't do much of anything. She remained tense and alert, but she had to keep moving forwards.

As she continued to walk, the feeling would just get worse. At once it was almost like something was watching her and also following her, like the trees themselves had eyes and were closing in. The wind started to blow harder and with it words seemed to follow. "...Weak..." It sang to her, eerily sweet and familiar. "...Broken..." It hummed, as though directly at her left ear. "...Useless..." It hissed from directly behind her, a looming presence seeming to appear behind her for a moment. Of course it would vanish if she turned and if she wasn't looking properly, she'd end up falling into the next trap. All of a sudden the earth opened up under her to drop her into a pit full of spikes, all of them strangely appearing to be made of tightly wound together wires.

September kept going, eyes placed forwards. She had Hippolyta's back, telling her everything in her mind that was going on, that whilst they shared some senses like touch, she lacked some, and thus had a slight differing effect. On top of that however she had the caring voice backing up every comment, remind her that she was absolutely none of those things. The movement of the voice told her it was part of whatever trap was set for her, and Adamant kept her more than alert to her immediately surroundings. As the ground opened up she was already more than aware with A- reaction, completely dodging it by jumping over the 10ft with her strength without a sweat. She needed the find the one doing this to her, but she couldn't act without seeing. And so she kept her senses open, eager to act the moment she had a solid case of her opponent she could strike.

Sure enough, September was able to avoid the pit with ease and keep moving. Still nothing happened but those whispers continued, nagging at her, seeming to reach her even through Hippolyta's reassurances. As the whispers continued they started to target deeper and deeper doubts, as though forcing September to come to grips with some great fear. Would she bow to the pressure or would she keep trucking on with the mission? Maybe she'd like to head off the path and find whatever was doing this to her... Although as she walked, the border post with Damned was starting to become visible in the distance, she wasn't far from completing her first trip.

Number mattered, that was all September could think of. If she wasn't careful she could lose her crates, and her opponents. So she would keep going along the path of the Damned border. She knew the voices wouldn't stop, but she could investigate properly after she dropped them off. Her option was a little self-harming, but she had to think rationally, and that was what she felt to be the best option.

Once she reached the checkpoint, two people hurried out and took the crates off of her and immediately hustled back in. Those whispers persisted but no one else seemed to notice them or if they did they didn't say anything, they were a bit busy working. Now that she had the crates it was time to move back and pick up the next set. Strangely she would find that she was entirely unmolested as she moved back other than the persistent whispers that seemed to accompany things. What was going on and would she investigate before picking up the next set of crates?

Once she dropped off the crates, she decided she needed to take a more careful approach to continuing. She turned back the way she came, but veered off the path to investigate the voice she had heard. Without the boxes she was capable of investigating faster with natural C-rank speed. She didn't know just what to expect, but she stayed alert and cautious.

As she moved through the forest, she would hear the whispers from all around but still nothing would happen. No one came out, her reaction tiers didn't spot anyone and she didn't seem to be using any form of unnatural sensory to pick people out from the woodland around them. Perhaps these voices weren't truly real? Either way, they were starting to worm deeper into her mind, as though picking at her brain to find her secrets and become harsher in tone the longer she let it last. If someone was doing this, why weren't they attacking her now that she was away from allies and deep into the woods? Maybe it wasn't September they were after... What was different than when she was walking to Damned?
