Curiosity killed the Cat [Mushtoad's Adventures]

Mushtoad would drop the Deer corpse onto the ground once they arrived at the clearing, and would look around to see if anything had changed. However, the only difference he could see was that Mushbuff's body had started to wither away, and instantly he remembered what he did to Buff's body. "Collect what you can from the shiny rocks, I'm going to carve up this Deer." He would say as he would pull out both mandibles and begin a slow carve of the body as Mushpea and Mushrio started to collect the ore from rocks.

Time would pass as the group of Myconid's spent time outside just gathering resources, while the other two had no idea how to dig much less mine for things Mushrio would spot something quite useful, apparently it was dropped here. It was a Miner Helmet which used a lesser spirit stone to power itself. Quite the find really and said Myconid would rush over to where Mushtoad was before showing it to him. During this time Mushtoad had managed to carve the Red Deer's entire pelt. It was unfortunate that while this was going on they weren't the only ones on this rocky hill area. It would seem that the deer which had fled before had informed some of it's kin as hree Red Fawns would suddenly burst into the area. Then again it might not be the case as a Yellow Monkey seemingly also was lingering around perhaps they were being hunted by it? Either way the Yellow Monkey would see what the Myconids were doing and would decide to keep it's distance while the Red Fawn upon seeing an adult of their species being butchered would all become angry and would rush towards the three Myconid each of them aiming a tackle at one of them.

Mushtoad would nod at Mushrio as he was shown the new helmet, and motioned for him to put it on. "Never know when you're going to need " He would say before he would notice the Red Fawn enter the clearing and then would look down at the deer he had just finished skinning, then back to it. "Oh fertilizer, go on back with Mushpea and get ready for another fight." He would say as he stood up and walked over the Deer's corpse. Mushrio would look surprised at the new arrival and would run back towards Mushpea while putting on his new helmet. "We have trouble, need to help the boss" He would say to Mushpea before the two would run back to where Toad was, pickaxes at the ready. With weapons in their hands, the three would make an attempt to dash out of the way of the attack, well all except for Mushtoad. Who would cycle his Mana around his body, in hopes to give him another layer of protection before jumping up with a mandible in each hand. However, if he was able to land on the beasts head he would simply wrap his arms around its head as tightly as he could before releasing his Sporelingo spore into it's ear. "Calm down now, he tried to eat us. It's only fair and right for the forest that his body is fully utilized."

Both Mushrio and Mushpea would end up getting glancing blows to their body, but their clothes would thankfully protect them from taking any damage. It seemed that these Red Fawn weren't capable of hurting them if they dodged and relied on their miner clothes, but they wouldn't be able to fight back. Mushtoad on the other hand managed to activate his magic skill as such when he got hit by the blow it wouldn't do much and he would be able to retaliate with two strikes blinding the Red Fawn that tried to tackle him. It would cry out in pain and start to charge trying to ram the Myconid who was now on it's head into a tree, meanwhile the other red fawns would turn before trying to tackle again and the Yellow Monkey would move over to where the Red Deer corpse was before grabbing it and trying to drag it away during the chaos.

Mushtoad would grin as he took no damage from the Fawn trying to tackle him, though he really wasn't trying to attack it, more trying to soothe it. However, what's done is done. "I'm sorry, please try and remain calm. We know someone who can heal you if you and your friends stop attacking us" He would say in a calm voice, his sporelingo going into the air. He would turn his head to look at where they were headed, and out of the corner of his eye would notice a Yellow monkey try to take off with his kill. Taking one hand off the mandible in the Fawn's eye, he would take aim with his hand and fire a Mana ball towards the arm trying to carry the deer corpse. Mushrio and Pea would hear what Mushtoad was saying and would continue to dodge the other fawn's attacks. "Protect the gear" Toad would shout out towards his myconids, drawing their attention towards the monkey trying to steal from them, and would then take off towards the monkey making attempts to hurt it with their pickaxes.

Gear:

The Deer wouldn't listen to the Myconid and would find a tree and promptly tackle him against it, fortunately for the Myconid it would be after he fired off the mana ball at the stealing yellow monkey causing it to screech with pain and drop the corpse it was dragging away. As for the other two myconid they wouldn't manage to dodge the attacks but their gear once again made it so that they wouldn't suffer any harm and rather than stick around the yellow monkey would try and stand it's ground leaping at the closest myconid (rio) and trying to pound down on his mushroom cap. This would cause a distraction which one of the Red Deer would try to exploit and would head straight for Mushrio before tackling him in the back. The other Red deer would head towards Mushpea so that she couldn't help her ally whereas the blind one would try to rub it's head Mushtoad due to being on top of it as harshly on the tree bark as possible.

Mushtoad would groan as he was pinned up against the tree with Red Fawn keeping him there, which would have been bad if he wasn't armoured up with his dead animal skin and magic, however, it did mean that he was stuck in this situation until he was able to get out of it. So he would do his best to get out of that situation right now as he jam his mandibles as deep and hard into the eye sockets of the deer in hopes that maybe it would break through the skull. Meanwhile as the Second deer would chase after Mushpea, they would run as fast as they could away from it and towards the final deer trying to charge at their friend. As they neared the Deer, Mush pea would drop down in an attempt to slide underneath the Deer going after Mushrio holding the pickaxe up in hopes to tear open it's underside. Then while this was Happening, Mushrio would grab their pickaxe with both hands and start spinning his body, hoping to get more momentum to strike the Monkey before it was able to strike him on his helmeted cap.

Mushtoad would manage to slay his opponent just in time as Mushrio was getting his cap beat in even though he did manage to repel the Red Deer who had been trying to attack him thanks to his spinning pickaxe attack. It was interesting to see Mushpea slide under that same Red Deer and disemboweling it as it's ally tackled it due to being unable to anticipate her sudden movements. This would leave them with two opponents for the most part unharmed and one opponent quite serious injured, the Yellow Monkey would see that his luck might just turn sour and thus would jump off of Mushrio and flee into the bushes. Thus the only opponents that were left were the relatively unharmed Red Deer and the greviously injured Red Deer, it seemed that these Myconid's had come a long way, Mushtoad in particular as his tactics had gotten a bit better.

Mushtoad would let out a sigh of relief as the Deer had fallen lifeless on the ground, but would turn his head to notice the unharmed deer continuing its rampage towards his comrades. However, it looked like the thief would take off away from the fight empty-handed, so that's one good thing their way. So he would lift his hand up in the air after stuffing a mandible in his cloak, and would fire a Mana ball at the unharmed Deer towards it's hindquarters in hopes to spook it away from this area. Meanwhile, Both Mushpea and Mushrio would swing their pickaxes at the head and torso of the badly hurt deer.

The unharmed deer would end up getting hit and rather than run it would become even more upset and turn towards Mushtoad and bound towards him to tackle him. However unlike the other one which tried to ram him into something it would buck it's head so as to toss him into the tree allowing it to maintain it's distance long enough to tackle him a second time before he could get his bearings. As for the other Red Deer due to it's state it would weakly try to defend itself but unfortunately the positions of the other Myconid's would cause it to quickly get killed, truly unfortunate on it's behalf.

Mushroad would groan in pain as he was tossed through the air after the Deer had taken its opportunity to try and avenge it's fallen brethren, however, it was at this point that he would take this opportunity to try something out he had been curious about. He had noticed some flora and even his own spore able to list lazily through the air and had been curious if he would be able to perform a similar feat, so as he went through the air he would attempt to move his body around so that his cap would be able to create an umbrella effect as he moved towards the tree. Whether or not he was successful in doing so he would land against the tree and climb up the tree as fast as he could in order to gain some distance from the beast. Mushpea would take this opportunity after slaying the other Deer to chase after the Deer trying to impale Toad against a tree with its antlers and would attempt to swing their pickaxe near the same spot that the mana ball had collided with as they got close. Mushrio, on the other hand, would stay near the two deer bodies and take aim with their hands, firing off two mana balls at the head of the final deer.

Mushtoad's attempt at gliding in such a manner would fail it was unfortunate but it seemed he didn't get the necessary lift from spreading his cap in such a way, maybe he just wasn't meant to fly. Either way while he was preoccupied trying to do something new his allies were taking care of business, one with a pickaxe strike which would cause the Red Deer to let out a cry of agony trying to pull away from the business end of the pickaxe so it could attack but before it could it was taken down by two mana balls. All in all it seemed like this was the most successful hunt that Mushtoad had ever been on though he seemed to consistently make results when faced against things which would usually result in his death, this time though no one died so it was better than his last hunt for sure. However with such a haul of bloody meat they would likely attract predators now, especially since it was night time so it might be best to head back to the patch unless they wanted to continue braving the outside world.

Mushtoad would hop down off the tree after the final deer had been taken care of, and would look at the other two Myconids with a nod. "I think that is enough excitment for today, we should head on back towards the patch. Don't think we can handle much more for the night" Mushtoad would say to the duo as he went over to the other bodies, motioning for the other to follow. It would take a bit of effort but with the three of them would leave the area and back to the patch dragging four red deer bodies.

Mushtoad, Mushrio, Mushpea, and OniFang would all exit the patch mid morning after a long day of training and being impregnated, and it was now time for the group to get out into the wilderness and see what all there was out there. With everyone in their gear for the most part, Toad would decide to lead the group east. A direction he hadn't ventured much and figured why not get a better idea of the surrounding areas of the patch, what was the harm, right?

As the quad squad traveled through the forest, they would come upon a small clearing. Here, the trees didn't grow quite as thick, thus leaving a small meadow of flowers, weeds, and various other forms of vegetation. However, within this meadow also lay a small black ball of fur. A black wolf pup, alone and without a pack or parent nearby it seemed. Rather unusual, all things considered, but certainly not unheard of. The creature sniffed the ground, pulling at weeds with his teeth and spitting them out with a small retching sound each time. It seemed hungry, or at least curious in the idea of food. However, at this point it didn't seem to have noticed the traveling mushrooms and oni.

Mushtoad and the rest of his group would spot the lost wolf pup in the distance, and after quickly scanning the area for any others of it's kind, would hold his hand out in order to halt his group in their tracks. "It's small and alone. From the looks of things, it is hungry for some food. So I am going to try and feed it something to see if it can be brought onto our side." He would say to the group as he began started to crouch down, and slowly make his way towards the pup with a portion of the red deer meat in his hand. As he tried to move silently through the grass, Toad would keep his eyes locked onto the target in an attempt to observe it. Once he was close enough he would tear the portion of meat in half and throw one half towards the wolf, hoping it would land close enough not to his the infant animal.

Apparently Mushtoad hadn't quite mastered the art of sneaking as well as he though the would. Perhaps it was his feet crunching through the fallen leaves and underbrush, or maybe simply the scent of the meat he carried alerted the wolf pup, regardless, he was found out rather quickly. The pup's head would dart up, locking eyes with Mushtoad, a quiet but high pitched growl escaped from its lips as it saw the myconid approach. Its eyes wavered for a moment, turning to the fistful of meat that Toad carried with him. The pup licked its lips, its growl growing louder. Just before Toad could toss the meat to the beast, the pup struck, lunging forward with claws out stretched. It attempted to rake its sharp, puppy claws across Toad's chest, pushing the creature down and grabbing the meat for itself.

Mushtoad would let out a sigh as the wolf pup would make it's attack for him, and would bring up his Mana resistance armour in order to help mitigate the damage done to his protective gear. Seeing this attack the rest of the group would start to make their advance on their would be attacker, the Lesser Oni unarmed for the most part, but the other two myconids had their pickaxes in hand. The three would then surround the pup who was still trying to get at the meat in Toads hand which meant for the time being it was distracted, That's when Mushtoad would send out his sporelingo at the beast while creating a Mana ball in his free hand. While the pup was distracted with the meat Toad would thrust his mana ball into the side of the creature's head. "If you stop attacking and follow me, I can promise you more food, much more food"

The pup would let out a yelp of pain as the mana ball impacted the side of its head, causing it to stumble a few steps away from Toad. It looked up at the myconid with sad, scared eyes, its tail tucked down. It looked up suddenly, searching the tree tops and surrounding forest, confused as to where the voice in its head was coming from. Of course, the beast couldn't fully understand the nuances of Toad's words Toad, but it understood enough to get "more" "me" and "meat" from the myconid. The creature slowly approached Toad, bowing its head in defeat and servitude. It had no pack to take care of it and this creature, with its strange abilities was clearly strong enough to kill the pup, so why fight? At the very least, perhaps the pup could get a fair meal out of all this.

Toad would look down at the wolf pup as it came closer to him looking defeated, and would hold out his hand to feed it the portion of deer meat while petting it's head. The other seeing this would lower their weapons, the two myconids looking at the pup in awe as every creature they have come across at this point has always tried to kill them, and were expecting the same thing right now. Seeing the looks on their faces, Mushtoad would think the exact same thing they were and would place his free hand under the pup's chin making it look at him. "Mushrooms Not Meat, Mushrooms Plants. Don't Eat plants" He would say to the pup hoping he would send the message through the pup's animalistic mind before staring their journey yet again. "You three start looking for things we can bring back to the patch. Ruff, walk ahead of us. Let me know if anything is coming up on us." With that said Mushtoad would channel his focus on his Mana in hopes that he would be able to locate something of a magical source, and would move in that direction if found. if nothing was located he would instead just head north from where they were now.

Ruff would cock his head to the side as Toad instructed him on where to go and what to do. The pup would give out a light bark before wandering off further into the forest, looking for any danger or anything of interest. Meanwhile, it seemed that Pea and Rio's search was mostly in vain, this area of the forest didn't contain anything worth mentioning. That is until Pea jumped with joy, holding an old helmet in her hand. Rust covered some of the edges, but it was still strong and certainly usable. Such an odd thing to find partially buried in the forest, perhaps an adventurer had lost it here previously...or died in this very spot.

Initially Toad wouldn't feel much, it seemed this area was as magical as it was stocked with items to find. However, as he focused, a faint pull of mana could be found to the north. He was too far away to make out what it was or even how powerful it was, but there was definitely something there. No doubt about it. As the Myconids wrapped up their various searches, Ruff would return, shaking his head to indicate he hadn't seen anything up ahead. That left Toad with two choices, continue East and see what they could come across, or head towards the unknown mana source in the North.

Mushtoad would smile and nod at Mushpea's discovery and motioned for her to remove her mining cap and place the rusted helmet over her cap. However, he had his main focus upon the source of Mana he was detecting to the north of them, and well as the title of this topic states, Toad was the curious type. So with that he would let the two myconids and his new wolf pup know that they were heading north, and as they travelled he would maintain his focus on the source of mana as he tried to teach the three how to move more stealthily through the forest.

While Rio and Ruff seemed to be able to get the hang of it, stepping lightly and constantly being aware of their surroundings, it seemed Pea was struggling. She was a bit more clumsy, trying to watch the other three while copying them, thus resulting in her stomping and stumbling through the forest. Eventually the quartet came upon more rocky terrain, the sense of mana drawing Toad to the north where the forest receded and the mountains began. They came to a large, rocky mound, several times taller than any of the small creatures that stared up at it. The source of the mana seemed to just be beyond that hill. However, before they could proceed, Ruff's ears would perk up and he'd turn to the few remaining trees around them.

High above sat a single, yellow monkey who casually picked at his ears. He looked around the area before slipping a ball of wax into his mouth and chewing in thought. It seemed, due to their sneaking, the monkey hadn't quite noticed them yet. Well, until Pea came bumbling through the woods, drawing the monkey's attention who seemed to be hooting and hollering in annoyance at the disruption. The monkey jumped from the trees, coming down on Pea with his full weight in an attempt to knock her to the ground.

Mushtoad would roll his eyes as the Yellow monkey had taken it upon itself to try and attack the group, and would pull out both of his locust mandibles before charging at the monkey, attempting to drive the makeshift blades into the side of the beast. Upon seeing their friend attacked by the monkey, Mushrio would pull out their pickaxe and go in for a similar attack, swinging the pickaxe at the skull of the creature. Meanwhile Ruff would look at this creature with a hunger in it's eyes, and make a lunging bite attack at the monkey's torso.

Damn, okay, it's dead.

The monkey would...more or less explode into a puddle of blood, meat and organs. The combined attacks easily overwhelming the creature and causing it to just cease to exist. Ruff would lick his lips, content with the kill and the flavor of the monkey. Though the corpse was quite butchered, the Myconids could possibly scavenge something from it if they so chose. A large hunk of meat that had been flung from the attacks lay in the grass nearby in plain view. An easy snack if they so desired. Meanwhile, the steady thumping of whatever magic Toad had detected earlier continued to play in his head, pulling him, enticing him. It had to be close...so close...just over that hill perhaps?
