Element Training: Katon

Hundreds of scrolls and books lined the shelves of the library. The aisles of the building arranged in a circular fashion leaving the center as a reading area, with a number of tables and comfy chairs for the visitor’s use. Each aisle labeled by the knowledge kept away within the tomes that resided there. Ranging from the simplest forms of taijutsu to the powerfully complex arts of fuinjutsu, even the barred dangerous and illegal aspects of kinjutsu held a place here. Though the latter resided in the area farthest back of the library, a series of chains and several seals along with a guard blocking entry into it. Perhaps only a select number of people were granted entry?

Amongst the number of soldiers and even civilians, Haru sat at one the tables. Intense eyes studying the unraveled scroll before him. The table held many scrolls and books alike, all sharing a recurring theme. All held something or another to do with chakra natures. Yet, from someone who had only glanced as they passed by would be able to note that many of the opened book’s pages were all dealing with the fire release chakra nature.

As of late Haru had been greatly intrigued with the Bakuhatsu and their kekkei genkai. It was a shame really, he had known of their abilities with explosives and the likes but had neglected his training to become proficient in them. Instead, he furthered his kyougan and kept true to a clan he had abandoned years ago. Tossing the current scroll into the read pile he grabbed another, unrolling the decorated parchment to begin again. He was naïve. Haru had been born with the capability to master both clan’s arts so, why shouldn’t he? From a strategic standpoint, it was an obvious move to make.

So now he strived to play catch up. Haru would awaken his potential to become more than just Mishura, he’d be better. A hand would motion to a small bag on the table, after a moments raveling, a small pink sphere would appear in hand. Soon it would vanish as it was popped in his mouth, sending a sweet sensation through his taste buds. Smiling as he continued reading, clearly enjoying the sugary sweet.

As of current, his research hadn’t yielded as much as he wanted. Obviously, it was one of the basic nature transformations that many shinobi learn to wield as they grow stronger. The release was commonly attributed to the tiger handseal. For the user to conjure the flames required one to super heat their chakra within their stomach followed by channeling it up through their lungs to be expelled orally. It was also said that the flames could be controlled to an extent but the act would be incredibly difficult. Adjusting his glasses, Haru closed the scroll and began to do so for the others he previously skimmed. In the end he left a clean, neat assortment of scrolls and books for the staff, which was way better than normal cases. Placing his seat back into its place he proceeded to leave the library.

It was time to put some of this into practice. After exiting, he’d quickly bound for the rooftops at a casual pace for himself. Haru was on the lookout for a safe enough area to practice breathing flames into existence. It wouldn’t be long as he came upon a clear enough area to play around in. Landing in the center of the area he scoped out the surroundings to affirm that it was safe, sort of. Motioning his hands together he decided to start.

Being a Mishura he was expected to have a few fire style jutsu in his arsenal, whether he could use the release or not. So he’d go for the most basic and staple of the release, the fire ball. Slowly, he would move through each handseal, focusing and molding the flames within his gut. As his hands formed the last, Haru willed the chakra up into his cheeks before with an expulsion of breath a cloud of smoke and embers emerged. Though he continued to blow and immediately a jet of flames would replace the smoke and heat the air considerably. Once the flames died down he was overcome by a short fit of coughs as smoke continued to slip from his mouth. Was this normal? No matter he had just probably, maybe, achieved fire release. And now he was closer to being more of a Bakuhatsu?

Training:

The room was barely visible. Lit by a single lamp at the center, heap after heap of paper lay scrambled around the floor. A thin black cylinder accompanied each piece of parchment at one end. They were scrolls unraveled for some purpose.  Along every one of them were many symbols arranged in the same pattern repeatedly. The same markings written, again and again, one could call it obsession at how many had been scrawled out. Another scroll was tossed on to the pile, knocking a few out of place and settling itself awkwardly at the peak. There were more to be made it seemed.

Haru was sure he would have gotten the premise of it down by now. It was a couple of hours after midnight, and the young man had spent a majority of the day prior and night on learning the basis for fuinjutsu. The Mishura had acquired books, detailing the fundamentals of the art; general seals, various formulas, standard modifications, and the methods for sealing, all of it he read over to comprehend better what he planned to undertake. For some reason, he couldn't apply any of it. After numerous attempts, he had nothing to show for any of his efforts well besides the mass of paper littered around his floor. He just couldn't grasp what he was missing. Running a single hand through his silver locks, Haru racked his mind to find the solution. Maybe he should just return to the beginning? Yeah, retrace those steps or rather reread those pages. Now, where did he leave them?

Scrambling through the heap, he'd find one of the books he had read a couple of times and would intently go over its contents. All of this was to bring him closer to his other side. The Bakuhatsu side. The clan known mostly for their explosive nature on the battlefield held a much more magnificent weapon within their genes, the dust release. A kekkei tota to be feared by many for its destructive capability. To have such a thing would be an invaluable addition to his arsenal and would further increase his standing as a Bakuhatsu. As for why he needed his reputation to be of that rather than Mishura was for another time. Scanning through the pages, Haru would once again pay close attention to the critical points he had marked down. Maybe he forgot to mark something crucial? It wouldn't be the first time, but he had gone through this several times tonight it was hard to believe he missed it every time. What could it be? Was the base seal incorrect? Were the symbols off? Why was it so complicated? Sigh.

A new scroll would come into his grasp as he unfurled the paper and set it before him. Just a couple more tries. Ink brush in hand Haru produced stroke after stroke of the formula in a gentle and gradual style. No mistakes. First, the base seal, it was like the name suggested it was the basis for everything that followed after and wouldn't allow any part of it to activate if it wasn't correctly done. There were different types of base seals for sealing various things. This one was an elemental seal, the sealing formula designed for the sole purpose of sealing away the elements. The one Haru was attempting to construct was explicitly for primary element techniques. The ability to just about nullify someone's jutsu by sealing it away was just incredible. He honestly felt that he needed to further his knowledge of known jutsu. So much was unknown, it would take a while to learn it all. Well, this was his first step. It was usually said to be the hardest part so the rest should be smooth sailing from here on out, right?

Next, the Mishura had to apply the sealing method for the seal to perform its function. Grabbing the same small stone he had been using for the past ten plus hours it would be placed in the center of the seal. The middle of the formula had been left empty as the instructions stated. Now bringing his hands together Haru weaved the hand signs for sealing the stone within the scroll. Eyes were focused sharply on the rock for anything that looked different. Then suddenly fumes began to rise from the seal as the piece of earth started to shrink and then nothing. It was gone. Hands still locked in the last hand seal, his eyes searched the scroll. There at the center of the formula was the kanji for the seal. He finally got it to work. But what did he do differently? The wave of relief from getting it right seemed to drown out the why and bring in a new sense of what he could do now.

Well he was just getting started with this. There were far more advanced books he had yet to read through. Glancing towards the stack not two feet from him gave him a cold defeated feeling. Food. Yeah, it was that time. Getting adequately dressed he'd head out the door in search of breakfast. Maybe a sweets shop would be open?

Training:

A sky shrouded in light and dark greys, and the occasional chilled wind made for a nice quiet atmosphere within the training grounds of Sheol. Instead, it was anything but as Haru wasn't the only one working on his skills today. From his left to his right, various others were practicing alone or with friends. Some old and experienced, others young and learning while a few were talented, another couple struggled. All in all, it was a good sight though he didn't show any real care in it. It was a typical day in this military state.

Taking a hand off the few scrolls he was carrying to adjust his glasses, Haru made his way around the others. Seriously, he was doing way too much reading nowadays. If he keeps this up, he'd really need these glasses one day. After finding a clear spot for his activities, he'd place his scrolls down before weaving through hand signs. Soon enough there was a puff of smoke then low and behold another Haru was standing beside him. The original would smile and wink at his clone before catching a seat next to his scrolls. It was time to start what he had come here for, to get one step closer to the Bakuhatsu within him.

Grasping a purple scroll, Haru would toss it up to his clone before unwinding a green one and beginning to read its contents as his clone did the same. This way he could learn more in a shorter amount of time. The scrolls held subjects along the lines of the elements or rather affinities, such as increasing one affinity allowing for more significant ability or control with that specific element. The purple scroll held information more tailored towards gaining a natural affinity for an element. He succeeded in establishing an unnatural relationship with the way of earth release chakra through fuinjutsu, but that wouldn't be enough to acquire what he sought.

Overall, Haru wanted to diversify his skill set. Acquiring more chakra natures was a simple way of doing this, granting him more options in combat than his myakuton release alone. The Bakuhatsu tended to rely solely on that single release for majority if not all of his techniques. It was a waste of skill to not utilize all that was available to him and at his current standing he had to continually improve in order to keep his position. Finished with the current scroll he was reading he’d roll the scroll back up before looking up to his clone who had also finished his homework. With a single hand seal the clone dispersed, transmitting its knowledge on to him. He basically had the gist of it all now. On to the next, Haru grasped a dark brown scroll and laid it out before him its content exposed.

Doton was one of the primary chakra natures allowing those who wield it to morph and bend the very earth beneath them to their whims in various ways. Though famous for defensive techniques it could easily be used for offensive purposes. The scroll continued with such notes accompanied with illustrations on how chakra is molded when using general Doton style jutsu. With that Haru felt confident in trying out a certain earth style jutsu. Slowly, he would orchestrate his hands to form the needed seals as they came to his mind. Molding his chakra, he made sure to somewhat follow the lines set by the scroll. With the final seal, the Bakuhatsu began to sink into the earth at a steady rate. Interesting, he could find many uses for such a technique. Then it stopped. Not too quick to wonder where exactly he went wrong, Haru went through the seals again and continued to sink beneath the surface until he was fully submerged. So that never happened, and no one saw it happen. Packing it up for the day, Haru rose from the earth ending the technique and grabbed his scrolls before exiting the grounds.
