[D-rank Mission] Clean the Sidewalks

Indra sighed in the afternoon heat, wiping his brow as he muttered to himself, This is beyond degrading for a shinobi. He had traded his sword for a thick bristled broom and was currently scrubbing away dirt, grime and general filth from the sidewalk outside a storefront. He had respect for the sanitation teams in charge of keeping Kohaigakure clean, but that didn't mean he wanted their job. Everyone was trained for something different and while those people had chosen sanitation training, Indra had selected the defense of the village...or hunting down Missing-Nin...or healing the wounded who defended the village or hunted down Missing-Nin. This? This wasn't even in the realm of possibilities of choices for him, at least he didn't want it to be. In fact, he hadn't even selected this mission but instead it had been his father who told him what he would be doing this afternoon. In a very uncharacteristic mood, his father had returned from his morning jog and slapped a mission down on the breakfast table telling Indra he had signed him up for this mission in particular. Indra's mother had done such things before, but usually they involved something more rigorous and almost always more dangerous than street sweeping. His father had insisted that to be a good medic, or even just a good shinobi, it was imperative that Indra see the village from all walks of life.

Indra had rolled his eyes, but his father so rarely asked things of him that it was hard to say no, so, here he was in the blistering heat of the afternoon sweeping the sidewalks and picking up trash. He wasn't entirely sure what his father hoped he would learn from this experience, considering the only takeaway he had so far were that the people of Kohaigakure were positively filthy. Why in Kami's name were there used toiletries scattered along the grass outside of food stores? Were people dropping fecal matter in the middle of the road? It simply didn't make sense. As he grunted with annoyance, thinking these things, a couple walked out of one such store near Indra. One of the two men took a long swig from a tin can, finishing the drink before looking around for a trashcan. He made eye contact with Indra, who stood next to a large trash bag maybe ten feet away. The two stared at each other for a long moment before the man simply bent down and placed the empty can on the sidewalk. He then turned in the opposite direction and swiftly power walked back to his boyfriend.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Indra shouted after him, he couldn't help it and the sudden outburst certainly garnered some unexpected stares. These people weren't just unapologetically filthy, but truly some of the laziest creatures Indra had ever had the misfortune of interacting with. He was ashamed to share DNA with a solid majority of them. The Ichibi didn't kill enough of the right people. Indra muttered to himself in annoyance. Dark words for one so young but then again...could anyone blame him?
