"ZZZZZZ" Tomas was basically snoring the day away as he kept to himself in his room. Tomas's parents were already getting ready to attend the academy ninja ceremony in celebration of the fact that Tomas managed to make it to being a genin of Kohaikagure. It was something that he surprised his parents with, due to the fact that they weren't expecting Tomas to take interest in anything that didn't have a direct link to his comics. As a matter of fact, maybe that was the reason why Tomas was doing so well in the ninja academy in the first place? It could be only due to the fact that he wanted to enact his plan of being one of the heroes that he read in the ebooks, even if it was only for one moment.
"Pfft...why didn't my parents give me such a silly name anyway? Why couldn't they give me something more "main character" like? Don't they understand that the journey linked to the beginning? Everyone seems to laugh whenever I say my name, like they don't take me seriously. He hoped that would change, being a potential role model, or at least a person that was strong enough for people to look up to, meant that Tomas had to be an individual that had the power and the knowledge to back up all of the claims that he stated. But first, it was time for Tomas to head on over to the ceremony in order to be congratulated with the rest of his comrades that ended up succeeding in graduating from the academy as well.
"Tomas, you are going to be late! id you make up your bed? Have some breakfast first!"
Tomas quickly went to the kitchen, all dressed up in his ninja gear. As he ate pretty quickly, he noticed at the corner of his eye that his mother was beaming with pride.
"My son, graduating from the ninja academy. And here I thought that you weren't going to make it, I started looking for applications involving regular jobs, but maybe I don't need to. "
Taking in another spoonful of cereal, Tomas would sigh. "Come on mom, I wasn't that lazy, I just couldn't find a good reason for being a ninja as of yet. It kind of escaped me, but then I really thought about it again for a few days, and thought that it would be the best time to go about what I truly want to do. "
Tomas's mom heard the superhero talk before, and she partly felt responsible for that. She remembered it like it was yesterday, going about her usual shopping with a whining Tomas holding her by the hand. To stop his complaints, she bought him a comic book that other young boys his age seemed to be into. Little did she know, it was going to be one of the focus points on why Tomas continued to be a ninja in the first place
Zanzo sensei was busy going over the usual long speech about how far the up and coming genin had come in order to make a dream and a name for themselves. Everyone stood up accordingly in order to listen to the man speak, but it was mostly because he asked for people to stand during his speech. He went on a bit further, but Tomas already knew that about Zanzo sensei, he never stopped talking when it came to morals and ideals, That was the thing about this particular sensei, he could of came off a bit better as a motivational speaker if he truly wanted to, but instead wanted to continue his path as the annual graduation speaker for specific events that goes hand in hand with the ninja that graduated.
"And finally, I would like to welcome this academy graduating class of academy ninja. May all of you dreams come true and prosper as you continue to work with the betterment of the Allied Shinobi Nations. " It was at this point that the adults stood down and the trainees that were graduating and being celebrated in the first place started to stand up.
"Well, it's about time, I thought that was never going to end." Of course, this was said inside of Tomas's mind, but he was truly happy a the fact that he didn't have to sit through another minute of the graduation ceremony anymore. As a matter of fact, the best part about the graduation was the part that involved having a little bit of the finger foods that were left around. At this point, it was mostly for the adults to socialize. This also meant that Tomas got to shake a few hands and maybe siphon out a little bit of energy for himself. Tomas liked the real food, but he noticed something about himself, he knew that nothing would ever really change from how he felt today in comparison to how he felt yesterday, or even tomorrow. The only thing that he could really do about it was siphoned a little bit from others. It was how he handled bullies, it was even something he shamelessly did when he had a crush confess to him for the first time, but he tried to be careful with his kiss. Either way, this was what he was, and sneaking around the crowd with a congratulatory handshake was something Tomas went around doing.
However, when it came to shaking the hand of Zanzo sensei, he was already wised up top Tomas's plan and moved his hands out of the way. "With such a joyous celebration Tomas, i was hoping that it wouldn't resort to something along the lines of you causing some trouble. With that being said, maybe it's time for something a little extra, a final lesson from me if you will. " Zanzo then thought it over and shook his head. Not final, I'm pretty sure I won't be done with you for quite some time, but you get the idea!"
It wasn't as if Tomas had a choice, his mother was there and he didn't want to have any trouble with her. Sh as especially emotional when Tomas's father wasn't around for little occasions for this, which meant that the possibility of her making a scene was high. So with that being said, Tomas reluctantly agreed to this final training that Zanzo was offering. "Zanzo sensei, it really was an accident. I mean, I wouldn't take any more than I need, not from the people that live here and work together. " However, Zanzo laughed haughtily and pulled out one of the comic books that were confiscated from Tomas during the semester. "Wait, you still had that? I thought you said you were going to throw it away?" The man shook his head and gave the comic back to Tomas. " Listen, Tomas, I know that you are a good kid at heart, and even looking at the material that you like to read tells a lot about your personality. However, the person that you seem to idolize is a superhero of some kind. If this person was real, and caught you doing what you were doing, do you think they would have still accepted you as a hero caliber candidate? Sneaking energy off people who came to celebrate your graduation, that's something a villain would do."
Tomas looked down, he had no sort of excuse whatsoever for the man. "I'm sorry, it's just that, I really can't help myself at times. I'm trying to find a way to cope, but I couldn't think of anything so far. "
Zanzo then folded his arms and turned around. "Young fool, what is the first thing that you have to do is train your mind. Learning self-control of taking from others without permission. At the very least, you should be able to socialize without doing harm to the people that truly care about you. That is something that you should aspire to do. If you can train your mind, then training your body is something that will flow naturally. It will take a while for you to get into your genin team with a new sensei and some team members that will have an involvement in your life that you will never forget. Before you meet these people, I want you to be ready for the change that you have to make within yourself. So I will teach you one more thing that I want you to continuously practice. Mind! Body! Spirit!"
That seemed to be the mantra that the sensei liked to say all the time, and it also came with a pretty interesting stance that he does whenever he says those words. However, that silly move that he did with his words really strick a cord from within Tomas. If he was on the wrong path, he wanted to quickly turn towards the right path and make sure that gets things right." Sensei Zanzo, please help me."
For the next few weeks or so, Tomas trained under the guidance of Zanzo. However, it wasn't anything specific to a technique or some kind of fighting style. The training involved more meditation, as well as the tolerance towards things on an internal and spiritual level. Not only to go with the training, mastering a way of life that trails hand in hand with the training was something that the group had to take into account. By training his mind, what Tomas did was try to lower his reserves and basically try to function normally while he was on low. It was a special case for Tomas, only due to the fact that he didn't instantly get better without having to feed off of people. The challenge was a bit rough, having control over his innate impulses of making a poor individual sacrifice a bit of what they had to him. On top of the fact that Tomas was basically starving himself, Tomas also had to learn how to only take what he needed from people, and not as much as he wanted. This was the mastering the body portion of his training. By only taking what he needed, Tomas was learning how to not be a glutton with his energy and pretty much manage his consumption rate.
Mastering his spirit was the most difficult, and it was mostly because of Tomas's negatively. He couldn't help but to be discouraged at times, or maybe think of himself as a monster whose place wasn't around people. The take away from such ideas was to not allow himself to think or feel that way. There were great things about Tomas, but he had to see it for himself.
After a few more weeks, Zanzo sensei didn't have too much time when it came to watching over Tomas, so most of the training that continued had to be something akin to Tomas training on his own and learning the values of self-control of his own. " Can I really do it alone without any help? " He wondered this to himself as he gave himself his own final essay, starving himself to the brink as he continued to try his best to function in everyday society. This was one of the hardest things that Zanzo has ever done, trying his best to make sure that every contact he made was not based upon draining a person dry of their energy in order for him to feel more like himself.
"Self-control... self-control..."
He needed to factor this in if he wanted to be a superhero, it would have to be something to keep in mind, the fact that he could be a bit careless and hurt someone with his power if he absorbs too much. However, at least this helped with the rest of his training.
