The World of Goblins

Grampa Goblin, the eldest living Goblin within the cave just got back from one of the tunnels where the younger Goblin's were not allowed to enter yet. He looked around the main den, hobbling around and picking a bug off the wall before tossing it in his mouth and gumming it to death. It had been three days since the Goblins had been born. It would probably be another generation in which barely any survived, though he had hopes for them still. He had seen many come and go within this world, and he was nearing death himself at the ripe old age of nineteen. He picked out some bug guts from his beard before taking a seat against the wall and watched the little ones who were nearly his size, though he still towered over them by a foot when he stood up straight.

It was about time that they started going out. Though this cave had enough bugs, the bugs would surely run out with this new lot within five days if they decided to sit quietly and eat the bugs. Some of the older generation of goblins had already left the cave early that morning to begin their hunt for their own food, after all, meat was so much better than bug guts. Sadly, he had gotten too old to be able to hunt on his own, so he had to make due with eating with the children.

The sound of a rock hitting a wall echoed throughout the cave. Having already had his fill of bug guts, for the time being, Xiao was bored and when he was bored he usually resorted bouncing rocks off the cave walls for entertainment. Though this wasn’t as entertaining as it once was, there wasn’t anything else to do with the cave other than listening to the ramblings of the old man. Oh, how he wished that he was strong enough to go beyond this secluded area they resided in and travel the world as he was sure that there were more interesting and entertaining things out there. “Maybe one day.” He muttered to himself as he continued to bounce the rock off the wall before catching it and repeating the process.

Damniz opened his eyes for the first time today, his body felt a lot different from how it was yesterday and the day before. It was an incredible feat goblins possessed three days were the equivalent to a human child which was probably about seven, well the phrase time flies goes especially for goblins but it wasnt quite the time to ramble about time. Damniz stood to his feet and stretched his short arms vertically then went to swing his short neck from side to sided, heglance at the other goblins of the cave and thought "wake up soon ." he walked out of the area which the young were placed to rest, upon walking out he watch as goblin grandpa had a depressed response as he suck on the bug "grandpa, is there anything tastier to eat around here!" He questioned, noticing grandpa hadn't been please with his bugs.

Gramps kept flinching every time the rock bounced off the wall. It was annoying but kids would be kids. At least the kid wasn't doing it when he was trying to sleep. Grampa Goblin picked a bug leg from his teeth when a young goblin came and approached him. "Ah, GobuDamniz. Of course, there are so many delicacies in the world. Though you'd have to be strong to get most. Some things you could try to do is find some berries or test your metal at hunting. Though I warn you, hunting for meat is dangerous. Very dangerous. If it was me, I'd probably wait here in this cave for a few months and enjoy the bugs before I ventured out too far looking for something else. Yup yup. Caution has helped me live to this day," he would say with a proud smile on his face, despite having called himself a coward.

It seemed the echoing sound of the rocks were getting to goblugramps as he seemed to twitch every time he heard it, as it was understand for gobugramps to flinch he was used to this word where you could die if you breath wrong. Gobudamniz stood patiently as he waited for gobugramp to pick out the bug's leg from his mouth and answer him, it wasnt something to become impatient about but you're not you when you're hungry. Gobugramp's reply was like music to his ears, there was a source of food outside this cave, he'd have to go find it. "Do you have any spare equipment i could use, goblingramp?" He asked, living off of a snack wasnt something he planned to do niether was waiting patiently for the previous generation to return here.

Gramps laughed before patting the kids head. "Equipment? Whatever we did have the older goblins took it with them for their raid of the nearest village. Though it should take them about a month to get there and back, but I'm sure they will come with some... Juicy prizes," he said with a drooling mouth, the loincloth around his waist slightly rising. He sighed and then focused back on GobuDamniz. "Besides, even if I did I wouldn't give it to some newborn who would just get himself killed. If you want to hunt for meat then its your death wish. I'd recommend trying to just search for berries to satisfy yourself for now," he would say before snatching at another bug crawling by. He bit into the beetle and murmured something about crunchiness.

Samaeth hated this. He hated the sound of the rock bouncing against the wall, he hated the taste of bugs, he hated this cave, he just hated everything about being there. Especially the other goblins. He was laying down, just staring at the cave roof, content with ignoring everyone. The combination of the rock and the cowardly words of "Grandpa" that made him snap "ENOUGH!" He screamed as he leapt up and wheeled on the goblin throwing the rock at the wall, pitching his own rock at his head "I am tired of this cave, I am tired of bugs, I am tired of rocks and I am tired of all of you! There is absolutely no way I am staying here for months. He stood and grabbed a rock, storming towards one of the entrances to the cave and ignoring whatever the other goblins had to say. He was leaving and none of them could stop him.

It had seem there was nothing here for the young, and nothing which wanted to be given to increase the chances of a goblin returning home. Gobudamniz situation had been put on pause, as one of the members of his generation were in the midst of a tantrum, well it was quite expexted from what he was saying he practically wanted better than just being here, gobudamniz agreed with it but didn't accept the way he chose to show it. It seemed not even being related would make gobugramps want best for him, well practically all of us were related, we just didnt know how. Gobudamniz decided to leave but from a different entrance from what samaeth had took, as it would've been hard to deal with someone who didn't want you around.

Vix was awake not simply because one of her fellow goblins was thunking a rock against a wall. Instead she had been practicing her glare on the bugs which skittered across the floor in particular if they were going towards one of the other goblins. Still while the others decided they wanted to talk to the older goblin she would wait to see if any of the fodder goblins seemed interested in venturing out and if she managed to spot one she would grab a rock and motion for them to follow her outside. After all they were lowly goblins and needed the number advantage in order to survive out there.

Sly had just woken up. He has spent most of his last three day sleeping, generally only getting up to eat and drink, but this time was a little different. It seems the others were starting to leave the cave, which meant that it was time to follow suit. With a sigh, he'd waddle up to his feet and let out a brief yawn, before hobbling his way over towards Grandpa, curious to see what the old geezer knew about the outside world. "GobuGrandpa" His voice seemed lazy and uninterested, despite the fact that he was feeling full of energy and more than excited to go out and explore. "What is outside cave?" His speech hasn't really developed quite to the intrinsic level of the other children, more so since he's been asleep and unsocial the whole time he's been existing. While he asked, he would copy all the others before him and grab a rock from the ground, surely it'll come in handy.

Geera had done as she had done for the many days of her life, staring at the room of their cave wondering just what else life had in store for her. Besides bugs. She could be happy without bugs. They were crunchy and squishy in all the wrong places. She wanted out. As she wanted out of her little private section she saw others leaving, she didn't plan to do that herself even until she saw that, but first she had to have a moment with Grandpa. Being a little uncertain though she found one of the others talking to him already, picking up a rock that she just barely managed to lift, believing it big enough to hide behind. Of course she failed in that, even if it were big enough she was constantly peeking over it as she approached Grandpa and Sly, listening in to their conversation as it meant she wouldn't have to ask the same questions.

Grandpa looked at Sly as he approached and asked his question. As he began talking he noticed another one coming toward him. At first he couldn't make out who it was due to her hiding, but as soon as he spotted the pink eyes he immediately knew it was GobuGeera. "Hohoh. Let me tell you of the wonders of this world little one. Besides the forest there are things called villages and towns, buildings made of wood and stone where creatures called humans live. Humans are evil and always trying to subjugate the other races. Though their women are some of the best things in this world. In fact, all you little ones are the child of a Goblin and a Human. There are also the beautiful elves that live deep within forests and other areas dense with nature. There is even an Elven village here in this forest, though they can sometimes be quite hostile to us as well. Stingy creatures really, though they mostly keep to themselves. There are also the Orcs, Kobolds, and Lizardfolk. They say the Lizardfolk are descendants of ancient creatures called Dragons, mighty beasts that once ruled the land and sky alike."

Gramps took a breath before continuing on. There are also lakes of fire, called lava found atop mountains. I've heard they have been referred to as volcanoes. Usually one can find tons of fire spirit stones near there. A thing called the Sea is supposed to be a lake that stretches far past the sky. There is even land devoid of life called a desert. According to certain toys the desert is supposed to be very deadly and as such few live there. As for this forest, there are a lot of creatures that pose a risk to us. The most common you'll see are the Horned Rabbit. Though small and fuzzy, these creatures are dangerous. Only experienced Goblins can usually take them out. They are a good source of meat, but their horn is sharp enough to pierce a Goblin with one hit. There are also the deadly Night Vipers, snakes with intense poison capable of killing someone in seconds. The least dangerous creatures are the Armored Tanuki, though its near impossible to kill them as not even a horned rabbit's horn can pierce their hide. Seven colored bats can be found in other caves and although alone they are easy pickings, in a swarm they will often drain any creature dry of blood. There are Rock Wolves, four legged creatures with skin made of rocks. Black wolves which travel in packs with a leader. And even the notorious Hind Bear, king of this forest is its evolution, the Red Bear. There are also bugs that are huge in size compared to the ones we snack on. Beetles and even demon spiders. There are a lot of dangers in this forest."

There was a sparkle in Geera's pink eyes. Not at the mention of the sorts of living things outside of the cave, or of the dangerous sounds of this vol-cannoe, no it was what was around it that got her interest. She didn't even know what they were, but something sparked in her little mind. "Spirits?" She dropped the rock with a thud as she approached, as she took another step forwards. "What is a Spirit? C-Can I meet a Spirit? Spirit sounds good. Is more Spirit than vol-cannoe dwellers? Do Spirit eat not-bugs? C-Can GobuGeera be Spirit?" She would accidentally bump Sly as she stepped forwards, a feeling of excitement she'd never felt before. "Ah, no no, sorry sorry Gobu-Brother," His name didn't come to mind, so she went with the next best thing as she apologised for walking in to him and not paying attention.

Sly sat silently, taking it all in as best he could. At the same time, he noticed Geera slowly and stealthily approaching, maneuvering himself to put extra distance between the two of them wearily. He had so many questions, and it seemed by asking one, ten more popped up. Better ask away. "Where are volcanoes? If so dangerous, why GobuGrandpa live so old? Can Sea be drinked? We have human mother or father? Where human parent?" He had more questions of course, but he felt it would be for the best to at least give the old geezer some time to answer the questions he'd already shot forwards. But there was one last thing he felt compelled to add on at the end. "GobuGrandpa teach GobuSly how survive. GobuGrandpa make GobuSly strong?" It was almost an order at first, but slowly changed to a question as he began to doubt the old geezers ability the more he spoke. Gobu-Geera bumped into him, apologising after doing so. It confused him. Sorry? For touching? He simply shrugged and turned back to the geezer.

Grampa Goblin would give a hearty laugh at their enthusiasm before patting them both on the head before reaching into his loincloth and pulling out four different colored stones. One gave off heat and a dim light, one was blue and sparkly like the ones they all had been given to drink with, another was rough and brown and looked almost like a regular stone but it had a perfect twenty sided surface, and another was a mixing green and blue that gave off a gentle breeze. Spirit Stones are stones in which non-sentient, low level spirits reside. These spirits all have an elemental attribute. Spirit stones are usually found in places that corresponds with their elemental attribute, for example, a Fire Spirit Stone may be found in hot places, like volcanoes, or a place with good ventilation may have Wind Spirit Stones. You were all given a single water spirit stone when you could walk. Normally one can only bring out enough water from one for a quick drink. Though one of the other Gobs that went on the raid was able to draw out enough to bathe with. She's very stingy with that. Well, I can see why seeing as they aren't unlimited. Normally a regular low grade water spirit stone like you all have can sustain us for a month," he would say to GobuGeera before putting the stones away.

He would then turn to GobuSly and lean in close. "Trying to be strong can get you killed. I'm the oldest Goblin and have seen many generations die from arrogance. The safest bet is to stay here and just eat bugs. When you are able to get a few levels then I'd recommend going out and catching horned rabbits. They can be found all over, though deadlier things await in the forest like Night Vipers, Demonic Spiders and Hind Bears. So its best to just be safe and stick to thirty meters around the cave. To the West is the most dangerous creatures of the forest. The North is pretty dangerous as well, but not as Dangerous as the West. The East has a path the Goblins have painstakingly set up which is the safest route and often used to find the main road out of the forest. Though leaving the forest often means finding humans which can be deadly if you're not lucky. And as for the human women, don't consider them your actual parents. They just have a high fertility and as such they help us not go extinct. You'll learn more about that when youre older though."

GobuSly would nod as his questions were answered. He needs to eat bugs, lots of bugs. More bugs than all the other Goblins. For now, he didn't want to ask anything more until he had Grandpa alone, but there were thoughts flowing through GobuSly's head. He had ideas to make bugs come to him and eat more than anyone else. He would start running off towards the entrance of the cave, but made sure she didn't leave. Seeing the outside for the first time was pretty amazing, freezing SLy for a moment before his brain kickstarted and began functioning again. His idea: Bugs like cave, cave makes them feel safe, but nothing for bugs to eat in cave, Goblin's eat bugs, bugs eat nothing. Bugs must leave cave to eat, Goblins who leave cave don't want bugs. Other Goblins don't go near cave entrance. So there must be lots of bugs at cave entrance no one eating. He'd lean out of the cave for a moment, making sure he kept one foot in, stretching as far as possible to grab at some leaves/flowers, throwing them further into the mouth of the rock opening, hoping that bugs will eat the green squishy plants, acting as a lure for the ones inside. He'd then collect up as many bugs as he could currently find, shoving them in his mouth before running (hobbling) back towards Gobu-Grandpa.

Puffed out as he returned, he'd blurt out another question, still bored and monotoned despite his excitement. "How many bugs GobuSly need eat? What bugs eat? Where Humans?" The last question was a totally different line of questioning, but his brain had too many bubbles of ideas flowing at once, it was getting confusing.

"Non-sene-blah?" Geera repeated, clearly trying to listen but just as clearly not understanding the specifics of what she was told. "Then I find spirits. I find more spirits. GobuGrandpa smart. How will GobuGeera find more spirits. If find spirits, get strong. Have spirit friends in rocks to protect. That how work right?"

Gobudamniz had been on quite the fantastic journey, but it ended as he return to the cave. "Gobugramps!" He called hoping he'd come to him instead, for those who looked over to damniz he was covering a wound which was inflicted by the very best which he gripped into his hand "shall we split the rabbit?" He stated to the three of them. The rabbit horn was hidden in a place to secert to show off "Gobugramps got any thing for the pain?" He question.

"Hmm. I'd say about five million bugs might get you close to my rank," he would say to GobuSly before laughing and patting Gobugeera. "If I were you I'd start by digging. Earth spirits are easiest to find but hardest to notice. Water spirits can be found near water but usually strong creatures stay near those."

When Gobudamniz entered the cave and asked Gobu Gramps a question he would sigh and hock up a loogey before spitting it onto the ground. He would mix it with the dirt and then pat the mud on the wound which would sting like hell, but sure enough the bleeding stopped.

Five million. What nonsense was this shit, fuck that. Sly had more important things to do than eat bugs forever. He would nod with his overly passive head before walking away, taking note of the little healing sequence grandpa just used. It may come in handy in the future. Spit and dirt, mixed together to make a muddy mixture to stop bleeding. Good to know indeed. Instead of leaving the cave like the rest of his fellow brothers and sisters, Sly would peer around to make sure no one was watching, before hobbling further in, investigating the areas he hadn't been to before, hoping to find these 'humans' or anything else he could use to become a bit stronger, faster. Once he was out of sight from the main flock, he would find himself moving as quietly as he could, almost sneaking, as if he wasn't supposed to be here or something. No idea why though, Sly can't remember specifically being told not to explore the cave.

"I dig?" Geera repeated back, looking down at the ground at her feet, then back to him, then back to her feet, then to Sly as he walked away, then back to her feet again. "Do I dig here? Where best dig? What I look for? How I find Earth spirit?" She wouldn't actually even wait, she just dropped and began to scratch at the ground looking to dig around.

Damniz had just witnessed something out of the ordinary but it worked amazingly. Grandpa had used spit and dirt to stop the bleeding from such a attack, it was something Damniz planned on using layer down the line. After the food had been denied by his siblings, Damniz simply walk to his room while eating the rabbit and holding onto the horn. He had eaten about half before handing it to one of the goblins who walked past him, proceeding this he simply walk to a corner and fall asleep
