It had been three months since Zettai moved into Hakagakure. The village hidden in the tombs covered a large expanse of territory, at the cost of the sky. Oddly enough, the tunnels and underground quarters were comfortable to him, despite his caged upbringing in a hovel. The young man was filled with immense gratitude for the village, and was determined to refine himself into an excellent tool for their use.
That’s why he was always found in the training grounds. As well as building up his physical stamina and meditating to increase his mental fortitude, Zettai was working to produce a jutsu that would act as a sign of potential. If he was capable of performing a Ninjutsu, someone might take notice in him and teach him more powerful techniques. If not, he’d just have to keep creating them himself.
Zettai was in a large common area for training, the stone walls bathed in shadow and a soft orange glow from the torches and magma channels in the walls. This was one of his favourite rooms. The heat was like a blanket that kept him comfortable as he trained. He had been staring at a torch on the wall at the other end of the room. Standing with his hands to his sides and eyes locked on the beacon, he cleared his mind. He had been taught some basic fundamentals in the academy, and knew the general procedure for producing a Fire jutsu.
But no text could ever replicate an experience. Gathering Fire Nature chakra wasn’t as easy as it sounded. First, one had to recognize and grasp it. And then, one had to sufficiently contain it while molding to produce the desired effect. But still, he was going to try as hard as he could until he got it. Letting the swaying of the light guide him, Zettai’s breathing became smooth and fluid. Probing with his mind, he tried to feel the fire around him. At first there was nothing, but then a soft red light filled his head. That was it. Instinctively, Zettai grabbed onto that feeling and pulled.
Taking as much of that feeling as he could and pushing it into his chest, Zettai combined it with a deep inhale. Holding his lungs full of air, he mixed the contents together before releasing it together. The young man was surprised when a puff of fire flashed across his lips before disappearing. That was.. It! He had conjured fire from within himself. Repeating the same procedure, Zettai tried to gather twice as much fire chakra this time. The result was a larger puff of flame sizzling his eyebrows. Letting out a shout of excitement as he slapped out the embers, Zettai turned and set his sights in the straw dummy ten feet from him.
This was it. The moment of truth. Bringing his hands together into the Tiger seal while he took in a deep breath, Zettai was ready. Just as he was about to release the chakra-mixed air from his lungs, a tingling sensation ran across his spine. He could feel the missing piece of his puzzle call out from the recesses of his mind. Taking this new feeling, he recognized it as the same sensation lactic acid produced and mixed it with the rest of the energy in his lungs. The reaction was near-instantaneous as Zettai’s lungs overfilled. Releasing it in a grand exhale, an orb of fire shot from his mouth and struck the dummy. It hit the figure right in it’s helmet face, and the ping sound it produced was etched into Zettai’s memory forever. It was the sound of his first jutsu hitting something.
Dropping to a knee, he laughed. The feeling he mixed with the fire chakra and his breath was his own personal chakra, so it only made sense that he was fatigued now. But this wasn’t the time to break. Rising back up, Zettai shouted a ki’ai to pump himself up before attempting the technique again. This time, drawing upon the different energies came more naturally, and he was able to recognize them immediately upon looking. When he released the fire ball, it was much more stable in nature than the first, even leaving a sizeable scorch mark in the dummy’s overhauls.
But he still wasn’t satisfied. Sweat dripped down his face as the exhaustion began to catch up to him. This was more chakra than he’d ever spent in his entire life, even combined. But he needed to do it once more. His hands shook as he brought them together to form the Tiger seal for the final time. The energy was even quicker to come this time, but he had less of it to give the technique. Still, he would have no choice but to make do. Letting the fire chakra circulate within his lungs before inhaling, he found the purpose of the jutsu.
”Fire Style: Blast Ball!” He shouted as he released the air, and the effect was stunning. A perfect orb of fire launched from his mouth and slammed into the dummy’s neck area. The wood immediately burst into flame as it did, filling the air with a crackling sound. Shouting and jumping with excitement, Zettai punched the air in victory. This was followed by him collapsing into a heap as he succumbed to the total fatigue that hit him. But even as he was forced into sleep there on the warm ground, he had a large smile plastered in his face.
