Training:

The team was prepared and Kotone was quite exhausted from the peculiar day. Emotions were still horribly high and outside of her control. She knew she would be best to speak to her aunt, get a little input on just how to handle. She knew there was a lot more hate within some of the members of the clan, she had after all been told all the wild stories. She knew they were not real stories but still, she could not help but let her mind wander. She was told all the tales of the ‘harpies’ as a toddler. She was matured since then, she knew the hate was wrong. But it was so ingrained in her blood. With a sigh she was ready, and she prayed that Kikuri could forgive her for the outburst.

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime20th August 2018, 7:45 am

Training:

There was something about running in the mornings as the sun was rising that was oh so calming for Kotone. There was always the stories of her ancestors filling their mornings through temple work and prayer, and whilst Kotone occassionally did that, the day always began with a run along the outskirts of the town. She had a long, long day ahead of her. Work for the temple and work for the village awaited, and the run to keep her body in shape and to clear her mind was perfect for it. She made her way from the temple and around the back, saying a quick good morning to the early rising Priestesses and a little trip to the statue of Kikuri, before she was on her way once again.

Her next stop then was the mission office. She found people so often just went for the ‘combat’ jobs around Nazo, apparently this was the same in several other places, but it just meant Kotone could take on multiple short and simple jobs in the same day.

With a pocket full of ‘mission slips’ she was back on her way out. She took the scenic route on her way back to the temple where her first mission would take place. There was always just something about getting shinobi missions from the other Priestesses. It felt funny to her having two jobs in there.

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime21st August 2018, 6:09 pm

Training:

Kotone was more than ready for this new challenge in her life. She was teamed up with people now, though having to listen to instructions from a Fushicho was still quite interesting to say the least. She was doing better at treating her like any other, but she still picked up just how often she was dropping back to passive aggressive comments. She had done so much work, picked up exactly how to strengthen her vocal chords to maintain a song that lasted long as she needed, but would not cause herself any harm of strain. Such a secret technique that she have been so simple on paper, but this was a technique inspired by a Bijuu, the Sanbi Isobu. Of course it was never going to be easy. But the technique line rose to heavy fame with her great grandmother, and whilst she didn’t want to fame chase in that way, it was a technique like that had become adapted in to the family. Mother’s taught daughters and so forth. It wasn’t that the boys weren’t taught, her uncle Ezra was taught the Hua Po Style of vocal ninjutsu after all, but it was often the girls that chose to continue their training with the style due to the more typical matching tone of voice.

She however was at the disadvantage. As a Soulless she was never trained in the use of genjutsu, standing as the usual basis for the simplest mechanics of the Hua Po Style. This only made her initial learning that much more difficult. It was that same disadvantage that drew her to focusing more upon it. The Hua Po Style had been hard, but she had grasped the concepts within a few months, and gradually she was learning the vocal manipulations that the certain songs required. At first she had worried about ust how to sing the right song, but as it turned out, that wasn’t necessary. The Zakiyoshi peoples often learned what became heavily known as the Aria Of Himiko Zakiyoshi, though more colloquially within the clan as the Aria Of The Soul because of how the technique was described. It came down to what Himiko called her songs, as coming from the very soul. And it was this that Kotone took to heart. She didn’t spend any time forcing herself to copy as Himiko had done, she took the basis of the technique to form her own melody. Her own song. And today, as she sang, the air shook, vibrated, and soon enough. She had the air burst.

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime22nd August 2018, 5:01 am

Training:

Mist. Mist was boring. It was arguably harder to see through than even regular rain for Kotone with her Liquid Scrying ability. All the water in the air was too thin, too seperated to really give her any sort of hold. So when she was getting the hang of mastering the Hiding In Rain technique, she knew she would get plenty of use out of it. It had been a running trait since she was a toddler that she got so much harder to handle when it rained just because she adored being out in it so much. She had learned to Liquid Scry early in her life, and it had also been discovered just how energetic she got in the rain. Like it gave her more life, and thus harder to keep in one place when the rain started. Of course that would easily work out in her favour more than once. Even just being in mist had energised her, to the point that it was picked up on that somewhere along the line, it was found that even without using the clan Hydrification technique, she was taking the water around her and using it to amplify her abilities. And for a Zakiyoshi, that was a dangerous combination. For the enemies.

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime24th August 2018, 3:55 pm

Training: V.High Water Affinity

“I hope you’re ready for this Miss Kotone. It is not your usual bed time story.” Kotone nodded, getting herself comfy in the main room of the temple. It hadn’t been changed in nearly a hundred years for the most part, with just a few alterations here and there to pick up where things had fallen apart. But of course one that remained was a silly little carving in a wood board across the room; ‘Himiko’ and ‘Cecelia’ carved in a heart. Kotone loved that little bit of the temple. It gave it so much more character knowing the one who constructed it was still a silly girl even in her twenties and so madly in love.

“Yeah, I wanna hear it Auntie,”

“Well alright. I would have perhaps preferred to tell this story with that new team of yours. It does involve their ancestors too,” Kotone just nodded. She understood that Himiko’s friends, grandparents to her current team, were featured in the story too. But she wanted to hear this story.

It started around the time that Nazogakure was being formulated. Himiko Zakiyoshi accended to an equal role of a Sannin, though it was well known that if she truly kept up her end of the deal that she would, and did, become the first of this villages line of Kage. The nation was still recovering and preparing for the possibilities that the opposing nations could well encounter, seal, and weaponise Bijuu of their own. But we had ours first, and the young man was being trained well. It turned out that her close friends would be the next recorded to encounter. Saiken, the Six Tail, was sighting and to be engaged by the Bachiatari group. Legends state that Himiko blew quite a fuse when so little support was offered. But she was given the go ahead, I believe the involvement with the Five Tails and Himiko’s close ties to Bachiatari Leadership was what allowed her to go.

So she left little Kotone in the care of Cecelia, and left. Stories tell that she left brimming with an unseen aura. Records of the time stated Himiko was deathly afraid for some time after the encounter with the Five Tails as she was guided back from the beyond by Kikuri herself.

Kotone gulped at that. In the clan Kikuri very, very rarely was even spoken about as speaking. But Himiko was said to have met Kikuri, and was brought back from death to continue her work for the clan. It was clear Kotone needed a moment, and after some time to process that, the story continued.

Together with her closest allies Armenezra of the Rikigaku, and Enzo Tapir of the Bakuhatsu, and the rest of the Bachiatari forces, they engaged the beast Saiken. Obviously as we now have records of the Jinchuriki of that generation, that the sealing process was a success, as Armenezra gave up one of his own children to be the vessel.

But, Himiko had brought along her own force from the Zakiyoshi clan as it rebuilt itself within the shinobi nations. Eager to show the clan could be a strength for the nations as a whole and no longer splintered, Himiko led her forces in to Bachiatari zones and aided in steering Saiken in to be taken down.

Kotone was waiting for the big moments. Her Aunt was giving her such interesting details, but she was glossing over just what the girl wanted to hear.

It was said that Himiko left the battle field half way through engaging the Six Tails. Of course we know that was false, Himiko Zakiyoshi was very much right in the thick of combat along side her allies. But even to this day we believe that Kikuri herself made an appearance. It might have been more ironic if it were Isobu and not Saiken she encountered that day.

The two generations of Zakiyoshi women shared a laugh at that idea. To fight Isobu was a peculiar little trait that those, especially like Kotone and Himiko before her, to fight the very tailed beast who had been the very inspiration to their style of genjutsu, and in turn what inspired Himiko and her children to create the Hua Po Style of vocal ninjutsu.

Himiko you see had fallen in love with the one woman who could give her so much more power than anybody had ever thought. It’s a funny thing what love can do for a Zakiyoshi, as you will some day find out I am sure. But the guiding wave of Kikuri pulls us to the one person we devote our lives to, and Kikuri certainly had plans. Cecelia, a woman with a dojutsu of her own, did not know herself what power she wrought. The union of the two women resulted not just in the birth of their first daughter, but the birth of a new kind of dojutsu that to date, Himiko is the only one known to possess. With this new eye she was capable of fighting Saiken.

Kotone was utterly mesmerised by the story. She touched at her cheek bones and gliding her fingers up to rub under her eyes, wondering to herself if one day she could possess those same eyes.

But it wasn’t just the new Bakufuko that brought Himiko aid, and certainly wasn’t what inspired the legend of Kikuri’s return. She shrouded herself in chakra, much like the traditional chakra mode. But this was said to be on par with the Sage Transformation. Perhaps beyond that. Himiko Zakiyoshi became the most powerful Zakiyoshi since Kikuri herself. It’s funny when you think about it. The girl who chased her dream of being like her ancestor far surpassed her in every way. Kimiko Zakiyoshi became Kage, guided the clan to a new world and forged unbreakable bonds to this very day. For generations her children guide the clan to grow from within. We accepted the dobutsu, and the clan grew stronger for it. But then Himiko Zakiyoshi comes along, with a simple dream. And by the end, she became the first Nazogakure not because she was still chasing Kimiko. But because her clan stood with her in their desires to be united.

And that, young Kotone, is the story I have for you today.

Kotone felt herself extremely excited all of a sudden. It wasn’t that she had those same dreams, she truly didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do with her life in later years but she was still young, who planned out their entire life like that from such a young age? Well, from the story it sounded like Himiko had been one of those people who plotted what they wanted from their life. But that was well known, and often used as a tool for the teachers for getting students of the academy to decide what they wanted to do. ‘The first Kage of this village knew what she wanted at five years of age, you’re all older than her’. Kotone had the same dream as when she first was forced in to deciding that. She wanted to make friends with the world, to make the best of friends, and to help them make their dreams come true. And now that she had Elias and Jin, she would do all she could in order to make sure that they too would have their dreams achieved with Kotone’s help.

“So what actually happened? What’s this big technique that she unlocked? Can I get it someday? Because that would be super awesome,”

“Now now Little Miss Kotone, I’m afraid even Himiko could not tell anybody the cause of that sudden surge in power. She did not possess it when she returned from the world beyond, nor was it simply giving birth to your grandmother that triggered the change. Otherwise many, many other Zakiyoshi women could have learned to pick up the technique too.”

“Wow, so it’s really that… wait a minute Auntie, you said that her eyes evolved after giving birth.”

“Ah, so you do pay attention child,” Kotone just scoffed and pouted at that implication. She listened plenty enough! “But yes, the Shin BakufuManako is the one belief to be the cause of what Himiko would dub the Kikuri Chakra Mode. It is after all completely possible, after all we do require our Bakufuko in order to access the technique we pride so much in Hydrification.” Once again Kotone was facing forwards and listening, nodding her head along before glancing to her hand, holding her palm flat before suddenly clenching in to a fist. She couldn’t wait to unlock the Hydrification technique for herself. “Time can only tell though, we just need somebody else to unlock the mythical dojutsu.” She winked at Kotone then. The young Zakiyoshi girl didn’t know if she would have what it takes, but she could only hope.

So, if I might continue. Himiko and the forces of the Bachiatari faced down their strongest foe yet in the Six Tails. I wonder if they expected the bump in strength a tail can make. However at least there was to say, Himiko had a better time in that fight than she did against the Five Tails. Steam Release for a Zakiyoshi member is certainly not a good match up. However, perhaps if Himiko had her daughter before the fight, she would have made a very good case for Jinchuriki of the Five Tails.

Kotone just giggled at the thought of that. There was always the peculiar little match ups. Tales from children, and there was bound to be adults who just didn’t voice these thoughts, of what Bijuu they would want. She’d so often heard the other children she grew up with in the Zakiyoshi clan talk about Kokuo and the Steam Release. It really would fit their usage after all, especially with the Boil Release. Then there was the ones who favoured genjutsu, and so they would automatically elect Isobu as their much desired Bijuu partner. Though this was strongest in her cousin, the only other currently student of the Hua Po Style. Combining the Hua Po with the Sound Release of the Three Tailed Beast would be a devestating combination. One that Kotone could definitely understand. But there was also something about the Two Tailed Beast, Matatabi that Kotone always admired. If she truly thought, it was likely because she enjoyed the feline theme that Himiko had done with her Fire techniques that were passed on to be some of Kotone’s first mastered techniques.

But that is besides the point. Himiko’s Kikuri Chakra Mode assisted in protecting the village, and with quick work from the group as a whole, the village of the Bachiatari was protected. And this time around Himiko did not spend weeks in the hospital. She did however briefly reside in Bachiatari territory along with her wife and daughter. The reason for why the next few months were spent there after the attack was never stated. But when she returned she was already pregnant once more. She released the Kikuri Chakra Mode only only one more time in her life. And records of that were even harder to find.

Kotone felt she knew what was coming next. After the bijuu attacks, there was the start of the next Great War. And Himiko as the Kage of Nazogakure, and formerly a shinobi of the Dipugakure village rushed to their aid when the Pandoran Empire struck.

With all that fighting, records of exact details are scarce. There was so, so much fighting. So much evil. But obviously once more, Himiko clearly helped in defending the village from attack. The Blue Siren got some name for herself after that. Such a sweet young woman, the head of a village, considered a threat by many of the Pandoran army, and the head of the Priestesses of Kikuri.

She stopped and winked again, as Kotone’s Aunt herself was now in that exact position. “I think I’ve talked your ear off plenty today. We don’t want you devolving in to a puddle before you truly learn the Hydrification technique do we not,” Kotone rolled her eyes at that, but nodded. She thanked her aunt for the tea, and bade her farewell.

Training:

Kotone stood in her bedroom determined just to get the chakra control necessary down. If there was one way in which her ancestors had prepared her, it was that she was considered a prodigy for chakra control when it came to water. But all that control within her clan had one particular area where that level of strict chakra control was at it’s best; The Water Wield technique. The base technique was ready, but she spent much of her time just learning to change the shapes. Of course, with the base form of a boken, stretching it in to a bo staff was… well that was what Kotone was practising in her room to do.

Training:

“Keep your legs balanced Miss Zakiyoshi,” Kotone’s instructor was a hard man to please. But he was the best that there was. A peculiar man of mixed ancestry, but made a name for himself as a samurai highly proficient in the Water Wield technique of the clan. Kotone had requested him personally, and had done so much to earn his respect to learn from him. There were a lot of teachers in the clan, and he was beyond tough. But even though he was missing an arm and one of his eyes, Kotone still knew him to be the best swordsman.

“Yes Sir!” She had been practising all day, learning to wield her water wield in it’s boken form, whilst balancing it alongside the use of the Hiding in Mist technique. Combining the two would be the secret to her kenjutsu style. She would never be a swords master, but she could accell more than people might expect.

Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Empty
PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime30th August 2018, 5:32 pm

Training:

“Miss Zakiyoshi! Focus more!”

“Yes Sir!” Kotone was at perhaps the peak of her training in perfecting a new weapon style. She had access to several scrolls, but it seemed so far she was to be the first to document a new style. Who would have thought a Kusarigai would not be a typical weapon of the secret water wield technique. But it really was a difficult process. First Kotone had to make a long weapon, and it was exactly why she first learned the bo staff configuration. It meant she could stretch the water she got from her vials. She was straining hard for her chakra control even just to get the right rope like shape and strength. It was so strange to do even that, but on top of that there was the other half of the technique; the sickle. With a splatter, the water she was manipulating shattered in front of her as she lost enough concentration to hold it together. Immediately across her back was the pressure of her tutor’s water wield. A peculiar, if very old and often frowned upon, idea of training with his striking across her back with the water as it also shattered in to water again. There was the briefest of stings but not damage at all. Kotone did not know if this was actually working, it certainly didn’t feel exactly like it did, but he was the tutor after all and she desperately wanted to learn from him. Even just his ‘punishment’ was evidence that he had amazing control over the water wield technique.

“You’re not focusing! Stop looking at the scrolls. The scrolls will not help you!” Kotone couldn’t help but want to shout back, but the last time she’d done that she got a blast of water to the back again. Doing this without looking at the scrolls, especially for the sickle at the head. “In one swift motion. That is all it takes.”

“Yes Sir,”

“I can visualise the weapon form right now. As a Jonin I have a natural advantage. So you have thirty minutes to form a basic shape or this mentorship will be over.” Talk about pressure, Kotone gulped and conjured up a hefty chunk of water once again, just enough to form the weapon on a minutely larger scale. The idea in her mind was get the shape she needed, and condense. “Less!” Another smack of water against her back and Kotone dropped some. “Minus five minutes.” Oh lovely, even less time.

Kotone decided to start fresh. The water just dropped without even a single ripple back in to the large bowl. Her mentor did not say anything, he just watched everything that was going on in front of him. The water was too… pure? It was what other Zakiyoshi members would learn with, sure. But it wasn’t Kotone’s. She stepped away towards her back, feeling the swell of water behind her of her teacher’s preparing, but it vanished away. Kotone drew out the brand new vial of water. She wasn’t at the same level as her ancestors, but she had enough in the vial to know it was specifically for her Water Wield techniques.

“Twenty two minutes Miss Zakiyoshi,” Kotone couldn’t help but just want to scream ‘we’re all Zakiyoshi here. It’s the damn clan compound’. But she knew better and had more to focus on. Holding her hand out, she popped over the vial with the other and pulled the water out. She made the same method she had been trying, drawing the water in to it’s bo staff form, and removing some of the rigidity she placed in to the water. Already she had results. She didn’t know if she could ever get a true chain, if at least she would need a little more time to get that far, but she made the bo staff become less like a hardened weapon, and more like a noodle.

“Twenty seven minutes Miss Zakiyoshi,” Oh how lovely, he was giving her time back it seemed. She had the ‘simple’ part done.

“Come on Kotone. Focus the end. You’ve seen a sickle blade.” She focused her eyes on the end, wishing to Kikuri she had her dojutsu active but she had yet to gain that. Naturally the technique incorporated the Hydrification technique, but Kotone was bypassing this through the use of chakra vials. One of just a few.

“Six minutes,” Dammit! Time was going by so damn quickly. The end was curling, arching, but it was still blunt. Focus! She was really pushing herself now. If she could get it right, she would know the process.

“Two minutes Miss Zakiyoshi. Do I need to pack up my stu-”

“Got it!” Kotone yelled, exhaling hard a breath she held for perhaps far too long. Her hand dropped, and the new weapon form was in her hand.

“... Well done Kotone. Now. Dismiss it. And you have fifteen minutes.” Well… it wasn’t going to be as hard right?

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime31st August 2018, 5:14 pm

Training:

When the morning comes,
The world will stir.
When the evening falls,
That world does sleep.

But forever more,
We too shall rise,
And through Her wish,
We band together.

Oh Kikuri,
We raise our voices to meet your own
And so we sing,
To have you home.

Kotone sat on her apartment balcony, feet dangling over the edge as she sang along with the choir that was taking place within the temple. With such a long day she had been much too caught up to get home in time to even change, let along change from sweaty combat gear too. She was a little disheartened, but the day had been far too busy to truly focus. They would not miss one little girl after all. Sure they might miss the clan heir, but this was only a rehearsal for the upcoming ceremony. Kotone was ready to commit to her duties, and just one session was not going to be the end of the world. On top of the need to rest, she had strained her vocal chords for much of the day as she was learning how best to put her skills in to better action with Miss Clio’s instruction. She could only hope her sensei would not venture in to the Zakiyoshi Clan compound to retrieve her at any point. Though surely she could just send Eli. He was always welcome.

PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime1st September 2018, 7:42 pm

Training:

“Swing the weapon with your mind Miss Zakiyoshi. That’s all. It’s a very simple exercise,” Kotone had a strong belief that her mentor in kenjutsu was having some exceptionally good day. He was being much fairer, and actually giving her good advice with her weapon style. She had been doing as much practise using the harder to handle Kusarigari. She had been told plenty of how with it’s style, defending against the attack and even using it to hit at range was a perfect use of the technique. And now she was finally being taught kenjutsu moves rather than the basic style.

Kotone faced down the wooden scarecrow, several feet away with her target. With the perfected weapon form, even as she began in swinging the weapon by the chain it was keeping it’s shape perfectly. “Release!” Her mentor yelled at her as the sickle of the weapon was gaining speed. Right on queue she swung.

She missed by almost a mile, slamming right in to a wooden support beam and lodging itself in. Proof that the technique was super sharp at least. Unfortuntely this also meant as Kotone attempted to retrieve it, she had to instead dissolve the technique in to it’s water component, before remaking it again in her hands. Another useful technique she could play around on.

Training: Hydrification Speed Weekly

The exams. The dreaded time of year for most first time genin when they would have to strive out in front of the very world, to prove themselves and their skills against their own people. Kotone knew very well how things had worked as far back as could be recalled, and in turn, she knew just what expectations were placed upon her. And with the announcement of them coming soon, Kotone threw herself in to her studies. She had witnessed first hand the work in their other teams. She had physically fought and then later watched two of the members of the ‘look out for’ team, Team 7. Sure she might have held back against Mei, it helped how in one way she was able to hide her truth strengths, but she saw plenty of her fighting style to know what to do. Her Hydrification would be a great boon. And in order to learn how best to use the amazing Zakiyoshi clan technique, she would turn to her clan’s archive.

Kotone always loved walking in to the archive due to it’s appearance. It was one of the oldest rooms, and one of very, very few who joined the clan compound with the Great Nazo temple. It was divided in two, depicting what had become known as the Zakiyoshi Divide and Reinforcement. The name, Kotone never fully understood the latter portion of. Perched on a pedistal in the centre, locked inside the a glass case, was the Tome of Takiyoshi. It spoke of the intricasies of the clan since it’s inception. And it was well known… people were happy for the change in name to Zakiyoshi. It just sounded better. By far.

“Good morning Little Miss Zakiyoshi,” Kotone turned to the elderly woman who overlooked the archive, who immediately gave a missing toothy grin to the young girl. Kotone immediately twirled right in to the older woman’s arms as the two family members hugged each other.

“Come on Grandma Kimi, you gotta stop calling me that,”

“Oh but you’ll always be the Little Miss, Little Miss,” Kotone just shook her head against her grandmother’s shoulder. “So, what have you come for today?”

“I wanted to… I dunno…. Maybe… look at Grandma Himiko’s genin journal?”

“Again?” She spoke with utter surprise, which only made Kotone turn her head away from embarassment. “Oh my dear Little Miss. You’re going to wear out my mother’s book more than I ever did. You could just ask me to retell you her stories you know. Or I’m sure by now you know the stories too!” The elderly woman broke in to laughter, and it was just as infectious as always, Kotone joining in all too soon after.

“I’m…. Not looking in to her adventures this time?” Her Grandmother looked at her curiously. She always thought the stories were the best part. Her age was well known to be catching up to the woman, she was after all the first child born in the Village after all, so it was understandable if she wasn’t quite up to date on the village goings on. But she loved her job as the record keeper. “The chuunin exams are coming up soon,” The woman smiled and nodded as she finally understood, but the far away look in her eyes told that she was already on the slope to forgetting it. “Grandma Himiko was strong enough to fight a Jonin when she took the exam, I just… I hoped she might have some words of wisdom,”

“Hmmm… Yes my mother was also… err… oh that’s right. She was a Priestess before a kunoichi. You are much younger than she was. In fact, you’re younger than both my siblings were. To have your strength now, that in itself is a compliment,”

“Ugh, yeah, but Grandma Kotone was like… a whizz with genjutsu, you know I can’t do that,” Kotone instantly withdrew in to herself. Genjutsu was a strange area for her. Her father wasn’t of the human sort, nor the Faunus that the Zakiyoshi clan would find themselves drawn to more often than not, being a Soulless, he gave Kotone the genes to make her great. But a step away from what made the Zakiyoshi unique. The Hua Po style had fallen in to legend with her Grandma Kotone having lost her voice before she could pass on the technique, and when it became clear as a young girl that Kotone herself could not use Genjutsu as a result of her heritage, she felt the shunning eyes upon her.

Kotone knew and was frequently told that was not true. The clan loved their ‘Princess’, and her choices were her own. The fact she could not make use of her clan’s techniques of the Sirens Song was nothing. But they were such a large part of the clan, Kotone always felt she was not a true Zakiyoshi without it. Until Grandpa Ezra taught her to sing. The great Zakiyoshi swordsman, teaching a little girl to sing, practically on his death bed. Through his work, and Grandma Kimiko’s researchers eye, they were able to uncover the secret to the Hua Po, vocal ninjutsu style. And now Kotone was making it her own. Her first example of it’s perfection were her grandfather’s funeral, when he would return to his mother’s embrace, and that of Kikuri. It was a sad, but proud day.

“It doesn’t matter if you can’t use Genjutsu. Because you can’t be affected by it either, no?” Kotone looked back in to the older woman’s haggard near-blind eyes. The young girl just smiled and nodded. “You’ll do great.” With shaky steps she walked with Kotone over to the locked away section in the ‘modern Zakiyoshi’ section, and took out a tatty old book flooded with doodles and notes just stuck in haphazardly. “H-Here you… Here you go Little Miss. I… I think I need to sit down. All this… all this excitement,” The book practically fell in to Kotone’s hand, rushing forwards to catch her elderly relative and helping her in to the nearby stool.

But it was finally that day. The Zakiyoshi clan had been prepared for it. So as Kotone stepped back, clutching the book tight to her chest, she needed only look and nod towards her mother walking through in her robes to let her know. The last of Himiko Zakiyoshi’s children, had finally gone to meet her again.

Weekly Hydrification Training

A Zakiyoshi’s funeral was always a large tradition. And parentage or not, each member of the clan was treated the same. For it would be their stories that would give proof of life, and once their life had met an end, each man and woman of the Zakiyoshi clan was an equal. Of course exceptions were always made for victims of war, or for children in general. And in a way, criminals were no longer treated as Zakiyoshi, so they were given different treatments. And so Kotone sat in the front circle of the procession to commemorate the passing of their oldest member. Just looking around she would see so many faces, for her grandmother had truly influenced so many lives. And that in its own merit was an achievement. “My fellow children of Kikuri,” The young Zakiyoshi turned back towards the centre as her mother stepped in to the centre of the ring of people, placing her hand upon the burial urn centred there. “May she observe as we give the final rites,” And on queue, every Zakiyoshi whom had awakened to it would activate the Bakufu Manako as the ritual began. Kotone too activated her own, and for the first time she felt she could truly see the reason for this. The temple and the compound had been built upon a man made reservoir, and by activating their dojutsu each person in attendance could see the flow of water beneath the floor, creating an ethereal look to match the atmosphere.

“My mother was the best of us. I have been told that so, so much in the days that passed. And it would be wrong of me to disagree. She was my mother after all,” The whole room gave a little chuckle. “But if I might give in to Pride. She was our greatest asset. That is a fact. She was the life blood of our new blood. She oversaw our library from the day it was constructed. She taught me, and most every child, that our history is rich and beautiful. The victories and the defeats both. So whilst I am sure so many of you have heard these words, I very much intend to take over her role in teaching this to my students, and I hope the next generation continues to do that same.” She cleared her throat just to give herself a moment to catch her breath and compose herself. At least one perk to the Bakufu Manako, nobody could ever actually tell when you were crying as it looked the same to any outlooker. But a Zakiyoshi knew. And there was not a dry eye in the house. “History is written by the victors. And we are the Zakiyoshi. We do not fight wars to conquer, we fight because we are a proud people. We still speak of our people who bonded with the Dobutsu of old. Their blood is still our blood, and forever shall be. History is written by the victors. But we are Zakiyoshi. We write our tales in case the worst should come. But we are Zakiyoshi. And we as the children of Kikuri continue in her name. We sing her songs, and our history continues.” She took a second and let the room decompress, and then Kotone had a hand offered to her. She gulped and slowly nodded her head, standing to her feet and stepping to the centre of the room on the opposite side of the urn. “Now, my daughter would have words of her own. She speaks as the heir to the clan, a Priestess in training, and of course, as our departed’s grandaughter, and the young woman who spoke with her last.” Oh that was so much pressure and Kotone felt herself beginning to shake. She wished she could have invited Elias and Jin to keep her company, give her support. But this was a clan event. Private to majority of outsiders, and even those must have specific reason to be in attendance. She was alone.

“Thank you Head Priestess,” She knew however that even despite the familiar bond she needed to still be professional. “Ladies, Gentlemen, and those who fit outside that binary. My grandmother made me the woman I am now. I elected to become a shinobi with her guidance, despite never having learned the arts herself. She was always a voice of reason and support. Encouraged my constant learning, helped me to better learn her own mother’s vocal ninjutsu style and… yes I know that’s a point of contention because of how secretive that is but… I’m sorry,” A nervous laugh and a hand on her shoulder trying to comfort her. It really wasn’t the best time to make a joke, even if it was oddly fitting still as it just proved how close the two had been despite the generational gap. “But more importantly she taught me to love stories. The stories of Kikuri, of our first Kage Himiko, and beyond. They inspired me… They inspired me more than anyone, and I cannot thank her enough. Because they make me want to make my own stories. I tell these stories to my team because my grandmother taught me the stories so well that I can often recite them by heart. This was how… how amazing she was.” She looked towards the urn with a look as the grief was catching up to her quickly. “I will carry her words with me until the day I die. And by then I hope to have a son or daughter of my own. And I hope I have even the slightest bit of her charisma to inspire them to tell the stories.”

“That was beautiful dear.”

“Thank you,” Kotone looked up to her mother with a smile. She knew what was next and this would be her first time taking part.

“Now. We will bring her to Kikuri’s embrace.” Together mother and daughter placed a hand on the handle of the urn, and lead a slow walk with the crowd outside of the temple and in front of the Kikuri statue where lots of tributes were already placed for the ceremony. Together they opened the urn, and let the ash slowly blow out, sprinkling the statue, the tributes, and in to the sectioned reservoir.

Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Empty
PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime3rd October 2019, 9:27 am

Training: Hydri Training

It was the dawn of their greatest day, that was all Kotone could think about, and suddenly she was feeling so vastly unprepared. This was the chance to show exactly what the three man cell Kotone Zakiyoshi, Elias DARK and Jinnouchi Tapir, the illustrious Jielko, or that was what she recalled Eli once calling them any way. With the announcement of the chuunin exams, it oddly brought a sense of calm within the Zakiyoshi compound and Temple of Kikuri. This was at least in part to how the training that Kotone underwent was moved to the back burner with the exception of under her request. She didn't stop her kenjutsu lessons, nor did she stop her history lessons with the pretty guest tutor. She loved the lessons and the stories brought by her. Apparently somewhere Kotone even had a cousin who was a pirate. Though she also struggled to ever get any more detail out of Kara on the subject. Almost as if she was hiding something big, maybe trying her best not to introduce a bad influence in to the young Zakiyoshis life. She'd been reprimanded enough about her own casual friendship with her student. Kotone also not realising that Kara was quite well aware of the crush the girl had on her.

"So what's on the plan for today Koto?" Kara slumped down hard on to the seat besides the young priestess, going right for sitting cross legged, a huge difference to the refined look the way most who lived in the temple sat. Not that she ever cared for being different.

"Erm… Eli might be dropping over a little later."

"Is he gonna be coming here in drag again this time? Cause I highly doubt the guards are gonna live down him showing up like that twice," this brought the smile back to Kotone. "You're looking good by the way. From when your friends last dropped by I mean."

"Yeah, I've been sleeping better, and a little later,"

"Well that's important, but what I meant was, you're smiling again. Just what I'd expect from the girl with the goofiest ID here in the Republic." She held out said ID with a grin that always reminded Kotone a bit of the way Eli got when he was teasing her. Kotone immediately turned a deep red and snatched the little card back. "Oh c'mon, that picture is just… it's you," Kara grabbed Kotone's wrist and lifted it up so both could see.

Kotone Zakiyoshi
Nazogakure branch
And the photo showing no less than 60% of the frame just bring Kotone's enormous smile.

"It's… so embarrassing,"

"It's so you Koto. Like… say I needed an escort. What do you think I'd want, an ID of someone looking grumpy as hell, or yours. Where you bleed 'i love my job' with every little bit of this picture." Kotone went quiet, poking a little at the specialty pork dish, before she took the big bite. Embarrassed and flattered as she was, this was her favourite lunch and it was no good cold. "Trust me, you might find it kind of embarrassing, but it's also super endearing." Kara finally took to tucking in to her own lunch.

"... Thanks Kara. It means a lot,"

"No problem kiddo."

After a few minutes of comfortable silence whilst eating Kotone once more broke it, finished the bulk and on to her dessert. "I'm working on my Burst Effect today?"

"Bursht?" Kara had no issues talking with her mouth full it turned out.

"Yeah it's… It's super old technique line from way back." And there was the bright eyed excited Kotone Kara was happy to see again. "See, way back we didn't have the kekkei genkai we do now. So my great great great great great great great great great, I think that's how many greats, and way, grandmother, Kimiko, she combined water and fire and mixed it with her lightning chakra too. Not like a kekkei tota, or maybe it was when I think about it, but she created what she dubbed the burst release. Problem was, nobody could replicate it, even her own children. So her method for passed down, like centuries, until my grandmother Himiko, she researched the old techniques. She was a genius! She found that the Boil techniques we use now were, either on purpose or not, related to the Burst Release, only without the need for a Lightning element." Kara really wasn't following too well, she was raised in the era of pirates by parents who couldn't care less for the clan they came from. But seeing that Kotone was definitely back to her old self, including adoring telling stories like this, made lunch that much better. "She found that by drastically changing the pH of our water she could create this explosive forces. My families kinda known for our unique techniques. We have that, along with the Hua Po, that's my singing techniques, and the Aquarius, that's the one I use my chakra vials for."

"Wow, don't wanna share that knowledge with the rest of the clan?"

"I mean… we're quite a hereditary clan."

"Right, heir status is passed mother to daughter right?"

"Mhmm,"

"Huh, I guess even my people can't remove every tradition,"

"So yeah. Like… maybe one or two to other clan members. But things like Aquarius techniques, those are completely hereditary because… well, nobody else can mold chakra in to water the way we do. It's not like… it's not just materia, this is basically pure chakra that exists outside of our bodies,"

"Wow, I swear I learn something cool from you every time. No wonder you're so cool," Kotone blushed, whilst Kara smirked and ruffled the younger girls hair. "I gotta go kiddo, vacation time." Then Kotone's heart sank. "Don't worry, I'll be back for the exams. Gotta cheer on my girl and her team," with a quick one armed hug from the side, she stood with her tray and departed. Kotone stayed a little longer, before she sighed and got up too. She had a lot of work to do.

Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Empty
PostSubject: Re: Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground   Courtyard of Kikuri, Kotone's Training Ground Icon_minitime23rd November 2020, 7:12 am

Training:

Kotone returned home with her heart absolutely racing with a single goal in mind. She had a few duties to do first of course, she was a Priestess after all, but once all of that was done she was ready for a few extra things. Standing in front of her mirror in her room she changed in to her more casual clothes; a black top that could’ve doubled as a dress and short cropped ‘stretchy pants’, as she so enjoyed to call them. Today’s duties weren’t that busy really, mostly just helping to clean up the young ones’ class rooms. She was joined by a new member to the Temple, a young girl with a soft rounded face and glasses. Kotone decided it best to actually work with her, the girl just seemed sweet and the young Zakiyoshi wanted a little company. Well, a little more company. She’d spent the day with the others of Jielko but she never did like to spend too much time alone. It just felt too strange. If she had any siblings it might have been easier. She shook her head at that thought. What a silly thing to say to herself, Jinnouchi and Elias were her brothers. Just not exactly in blood.

“Hey, Miss Kotone?” They were in the middle of scrubbing the floors of the main teaching hall, working in perfect tandem from side to side. Neither girl really looked up but they had been chatting heartedly for some time. This time though, Kotone had spared a glance as they passed each other as the tone seemed to have shifted away from what it had been for the last hour or so.

“Yeah? What’s up?”

“You know how there’s the big thing on… well… there’s a lot about how our clan feels for others, right?”

“Mhm. It’s pretty weird when you talk about it with someone on the outside though,” She spared a thought back to the times she’d discussed it with the boys of her group. Especially with Elias and his ‘womaniser’ ways. Though they certainly did make her laugh even just thinking back to it.

“... Yeah.” Something about the way the girl, Maya, responded made Kotone just stop and look to her.

“Is something wrong Maya? That didn’t sound right,” She really did have those big sister moments for all the kids at the temple. She also had to ignore that technically, yeah she was a kid too. Just her Soulless half meant she matured faster. Maybe not as fast as a certain Heat using boy, but she was going to outpace most of the others her age pretty soon.

“What… What if you don’t think you’ll ever feel that way?” Kotone could see the question, even just asking it itself, was weighing heavily on Maya. She took a second, and pushed forwards the line she was doing so she could keep cleaning, at least for another few feet, but also turn around to come back to meet Maya. She offered her hand to the girl who had long stopped, just kneeling on the floor. Maya looked up to her but took the hand. This wasn’t territory for Kotone to go in to, but damn was she going to at least try her best to get through it, to help Maya in any way. She liked to smile, and she liked seeing others smile. So if she could help them to smile more, then to Kotone it was a job done. The two sat with their backs to the room and overlooking the Temple garden where several other Priests and Priestesses worked tirelessly to keep the grounds neat.

“Tell me about it?” Kotone coaxed, staying close for Maya’s comfort.

“It’s… Everybody keeps telling me… Especially my parents… That I’ll find somebody some day. That… I’ll start a family.” Kotone couldn’t help a little sigh at hearing that. Something she had really begun to notice, especially in the generation of their parents, that there was so much of a hard push towards an ideal. Something that Kotone shared in was pushing the clan to be something it wasn’t. And the kids were paying the price for it. The ‘outcast’ clan were no longer at the Temple, it had taken a long time for Kotone to notice that they were all but removed. All that work her great grandmother did, and it seemed to have been being reversed more and more by the way.

“And… you don’t want that?”

“I don’t want any of it!” Kotone seriously didn’t expect that outburst. “I don’t… I picture myself doing… anything. Kissing, intimate stuff… It makes me feel sick,” She was really quite curious about this. It wasn’t something Kotone was used to. But she listened. And she reassured. She made sure that Maya knew that there was always going to ones like her. And it didn’t make her any less of a Zakiyoshi if she loved in a completely different way. “Like… it isn’t that I don’t like that sort of thing. It just isn’t for me.” Kotone could at least understand not feeling like something fit. In all of her honesty there was so damn much about her that she felt didn’t fit. Always had been really. She was expected to be incredibly strong, incredibly capable, but she just didn’t see that in herself. She had the unexpected advantages of unique styles of combat, her lineage gave her a few interesting advantages. But she was always chasing others because she just often struggled. She was a legacy generation… but she was constantly being outpaced it felt like. Kotone had to shake off the thoughts before they pulled her in deeper than she would’ve liked. She was here for Maya.

“I’ll be honest, you’ve been the first of our clan I’ve spoken to who feels that way. And… I don’t really understand it either,” Kotone watched as Maya’s expression went cold and dropped. “But that’s not to say it isn’t as legitimate as how I feel about people.” The colour began to come back, and Kotone smiled. “This clan is deep with traditions and beliefs, but… we don’t need to follow them so strictly.” She turned around to face the statue of Kikuri, and Maya followed. “We just need to love in our own ways. That’s all.” Maya sniffled, neither girl having been aware she was crying a little.

“It’s… amazing that you’re here Kotone. Such a sweet friend. Like a big sister.” Immediately Kotone began to laugh.

“I hear that a lot actually.” Looking over the sun setting, and back to the room, she sighed. “... Promise not to tell anyone?” Maya looked confused and nodded. And in an instant, Kotone cleaned the floors with a Stormy Blockade technique. “So… I’m erm… a bit nervous. I’m getting some piercings. Do you… wanna come hold my hand while I get them?” Now it was Maya’s turn to laugh. And again she nodded. “My teachers are gonna be so pissed. But honestly? It’ll be kinda worth it. I’ve wanted them for a good while now. I need to stop chasing their ideals, and chase my own. Just like you’re going to do with your relationships, right?” She got a little nod from Maya in return. And goodness did Kotone appreciate the company. Getting piercings was scary.
